has anyone been granted a sabbatical?

I'm thinking of asking my head for a years unpaid sabbatical. I am currently on Mat leave since last July and would have gone back in March; my Dh had been offered a contract in Singapore in the meantime. I am considering taking the full 52 weeks mat and then asking for a year off to go with him and be with my young children. the alternative is quitting and trying to find 13 weeks half pay to pay back which might be a struggle! Any experiences of being granted one by a kind head?! It's secondary and there's already and NQT covering my Mat

Those days are gone I fear, but you could try! Don't know of anyone who has though.

I would be reluctant to go for it as this year and next sees the introduction of the new GCSEs and is a bad time to be out of the loop. However, if you were a fully qualified Maths or Physics teacher and I was confident you would actually come back.... Would you?

I would definitely go back as I want to be back in time for DD to start infant school in September 17. I'm not Maths or physics unfortunately, although i do teach a shortage subject!

A colleague has just been granted a two term sabbatical.

A PE teacher colleague of mine was granted a one year sabbatical last year. School were looking to make some short term savings to get the deficit budget down.
