I'm starting a primary PGCE this September, and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for things to read before it. Thanks!

I'm nearly finished mine, which I can't believe- it has gone by so quickly!

I read quite a lot, but honestly, they don't really prepare you!

A lot of people recommended Sue Cowley but I wasn't impressed. You'd need to be properly established in the school to pull off some of the things in there.

Primary English: Theory and Practice was good. Haylock is our recommended maths guy but the textbook was definitely not worth the price IMO.

I would recommend that you read up on the curriculum, rest, rest some more and rest again grin

Good luck!

Use twitter, it's free, up to date and full of interesting links to blogs. Follow teacher toolkit as a starting point and look to see who is linked to them. Better than books; visit lots of schools, cherry pick ideas you like. Read Guardian Education online it's brilliant. Good luck it's all you'll do for a year but it flies by and then you get your own class!

As above but try TES as well.
