When to stop work (non teaching role)?

For those of you who work in a school in a non teaching role - how does working notice/leaving/term dates work?

If I leave my role at the end of term, then that would be silly of me from a financial pov, as I would get paid for the end of July/August even though I won't go in to work?

But, if I know I am not going to go back to work for the school in Sept, when do I tell them - say in a letter that I intend to start my notice during the schools hols?

Have I explained myself here? I am driving myself a little mad!

I left my TA role last year, my letter of resignation simply stated that the last day I would be available for work was August 31st. Its not your fault the school is on holiday, you dont control that.

My notice period is one month, iirc, hence it being a bit strange that I know I will be going way longer than one month before I actually leave iyswim?

Basically, I am getting another job with a friend, who is fine for me to start in Sept. It makes financial sense for me to have August paid by the school and start with her in Sept, but I feel I should tell school as soon as I can so they can get someone new in. But at the same time, I don't want them to recruit someone in the last week of term and for them to get paid for August instead of me!

Help! What is normal or reasonable in these circs?

A notice period is the minimum you have to give, not the exact figure.

It's fine to give your notice now, with your last working day August 31st.

Any new staff hired would then start Sept 1st.

If you're a TA your wage has been spread over the twelve months anyway so you're entitled to that August payment as you've already earned it.

Yes, really.

Start whenever you like, its nothing to do with your school. If they're not open, they're not open. There's no rule that says you cant work anywhere else when employed by a school anyway.
