Hello. I am a teacher too and got my BFP on Thursday-- congratulations! This is the note I have on my phone from first pregnancy ...
Maternity pay
4 weeks: full pay

2 weeks: 90% pay

12 weeks: 50% pay plus flat rate SMP

21 weeks: Flat rate SMP

13 weeks: unpaid
I think this remains correct

Hi not a teacher but have teacher friends who are mums- make sure you use the term dates to your advantage - due at end oct? At least work a couple of sept weeks so that the summer hols aren't maternity leave..that would probably solve the back dates rise too- you'd be working at the start of term not on leave..

For return work a week or so before the end of term eg a week before Easter or summer - especially for summer term this means you get an "extra" 6 weeks paid leave effectively, compared to mat leave that goes on till sept.
