Do I go back to basic pay?

Have just resigned due to ill health / stress caused by bullying new head (long story, union involved, paid off with 3 months pay)! So am now unemployed since end of December. I was previously on leadership level 5. Do I now go back to the bottom of the pay scale if/when I hopefully get a new job?!

Do you mean a new leadership role? If you return to "ordinary" teaching you don't go to bottom, just the incremental point you reached. For instance I took early retirement from TLR2 last year and have returned as a supply teacher on upper pay scale 3 which is the point I had reached before getting a management point. As far as I know, nobody would ever go back to the start.

You are deemed to have gone through the threshold if you have been on leadership spine, therefore would be UPS1 I think.

However, unfortunately there are a few too many HTs around who like to 'negotiate' downwards on pay, so be aware that might not come to fruition.

Sorry to hear about your situation, not fun.

Am happy to go back to being a deputy (was on L5) and have also got my NPQH but my confidence has been undermined so much by the head I previously mentioned that I don't feel ready for that! Had been a dep head for 11 yrs which preceded me going through the threshold app process. Am equally happy to o back to teaching with no leadership. Does anyone know at which level would I enter at?

Sorry Branching, just reread yr post! I guess that means I would be on ups1. Is this the case even though I will be classed as having a break in my service? First time unemployed ever, so am v confused and disillusioned. Can't believe one nasty first time head can do this (she's bullied 6 staff into resigning since taking up the post last year).

I would think you should be UPS 3. I was a deputy head for 4 years. I went back to UPS 2 and then went up to UPS 3 to years after that.

Two years, not, to years!

Sorry, I should say that I was M6 before I became a deputy, so becoming Dep. Head basically meant that I didn't have to go through the threshold.

If you want to be a DHt again, surely you would go back onto the appropriate spine point for the school?

Would love to be a dep head again but will take whatever teaching post I can get. Can't believe one person had the power to put me in this position. Have had 18 yrs exemplary teaching and been acting head many times. Hence me being so ignorant about pay scales etc; naively thought I knew where my path was going work wise?!
