in that case you could talk about how you would be looking to evaluate progress through your activity, any cross curricular learning and how you would build on the children's learning through your medium term planning ... ipads, good for you!

I'm going to teach technology - I am getting the iPads out grin. I don't think I will be observed for plenary. More the starter and explanation of what activities have been set up for the children to contribute to their learning.

yes, this a hard one in EYFS! I think really astute questioning is the best way to evaluate progress - as you say it tends to come out during the day/week/month. But your (differentiated) plenary type questioning can show that you are following up your initial assessment questions, directed at specific children ...What are you teaching? (disclaimer, NQT albeit elderly and been round the block type)

So, I've never been observed in a reception class and I have an observation later this week. What should I be doing to show progress? I find this really hard in the sense that it does not always come out during carpet time but later in the day or week in their play. There is always a lot of engagement with thumbs up/down, partner talk etc in my sessions so I'm not worried about that. Is there anything else that I should think about specifically for foundation stage observation?
