The royal family

That Meghan is hated because people are jealous

I think people hate on Meghan because she is a regular person and whilst people can accept royalty and their privilege if they can pigeon hole them as 'a different breed', they can't accept a regular person becoming royal as it highlights that 'it could have been them or theirs but it wasn't'. I think people hate seeing regular people end up with better fortune than themselves.

After all, the criticisms a frankly, ridiculous.

That she's multiple times divorced. She isn't. She's been divorced once as have most of the royals.

That her hair is not to someone's liking...

That she wears black and navy a lot...

That she wore an slightly off the shoulder dress...so have Kate and Beatrice is wearing one in church at Eugenie's wedding...

That she walks in front of Harry so thereby is poorly brought up....so do Sophie and Kate and no one seems to mind...

That she is too expressive and can't control herself...that she is too controlled....

That she has divorced parents....?????

That she is common and a two bit actress eve. Though she has two degrees from two top universities....

That she is a fake humanitarian even though she been doing stuff since she was 12.....

And the. There are all the people who on the basis of tabloid journalism think they know her motivations and character better than the people who know and love her....

I think a lot of it is veiled racism to be honest. Those that have been stifled for years were given a voice after brexit. I've experienced comments and opinions I honestly thought had died out 20 years ago. That coupled with your idea of her being 'too ordinary to be a magical fairy princess' is probably spot on.

I never hear anyone in real life going on like this.

I don't think she is hated. Most people do not have that sort of emotional investment,

Sure there are some twats out there who are likely jealous, racist, whatever but overall I think people have reacted to her positively and feel nothing even close to " hatred".

Don't tar everyone due to a few bitter horrible people.

Most people I've come across like Meghan so this is all news to me.

The royals and their spouses always come in for jealous criticism so I suppose it's inevitable that she will but I think, on the whole, she has the public's approval and most people love Harry.

When she produces the baby she'll be back in favour again so don't worry about it :-). Plus she has the gravitas and confidence to deal with it all.

She seems like a lovely young woman to me. I just hope the marriage lasts!

Since when was she hated?

I only ever see anything like that if I look at the comments section of the daily mail.

On the few occasions I’ve ever spoken to anyone about her in real life people seem to think she is lovely and he is lucky. Never heard anything negative.

No it's because she's a narcissist.

I've never come across a single person in the real world who feels anything more than indifference towards her. Online hate is weird, is there any public figure without some psycho haters?

She's knee deep in diamonds and never has to work again OP, I don't think she cares about what randoms on the Internet think.

If anyone has doubts that Meghan is hated, read the DM comments section on any article about her. They are utterly racist and sickening.

Or Mumsnet. Except that the threads with the nastiest comments have been deleted, thankfully.

Who?
Oh, her. On a daily basis, I have no thoughts about her at all. I formulated a thought before the wedding 'Well, I hope they'll be happy and go around doing good works'. That still holds. I have no interest in her, her clothes, her jewellery, her family, whatever. I don't wish her any harm. I think it's astounding that anyone is making a fuss about her. She's married to the - what is it? - sixth (maybe, I'm open to correction) in line to the throne. What's to talk about?

I think it's a very small number of people that certain papers are pandering to.

If the papers weren't printing it, i don't think anyone would be saying it.

I think she's gorgeous.

There are constant anti-Meghan articles in the press, notably the Mail.

The repeated story of the last 2 weeks is that she's called Me-gain by courtiers. And at the end of the article it's all about how she offended the queen by wanting a different tiara on her wedding day.

I have no doubt this has been leaked.

I think it's racist and very sexist. As far as I'm concerned she doesn't do anything wrong.

She turns up to things and is universally liked by the public she actually meets. The women she did that Grenfell cookbook with love her and say she's very down to earth and normal.

Don’t believe everything you read in the press!

I remember seeing a programme about one of the top, parasites photographers. He engineered it so a fan gave Judy (or Richard and Judy fame) a bottle of wine in the park. He snapped some pictures of Judy holding the wine, and suddenly it was reported she had an alcohol problem.e

I don’t hate her but wish her well. Baby must be due soon,

Paparazzi, not parasites, although the autocorrect is pretty accurate!

I don't think I believe that courtiers call her MeGain. It just doesn't make sense to me that people would be like that.

For some it's because she is American.

For some it's a class thing.

For some it's because she's an actress.

For some it's because of her family.

For some it's because she's narcissistic.

For some it's because she's a feminist.

For some it's her age.

For some it's because she's been married previously.

I agree with Germaine Greer, she will not stay married to Harry until death do part.

I'm quite in awe of Megan to be honest! I don't think ever again will such a normal person enter into the royal family, she's beautiful, has her own career, she's always smiling! But she's totally normal. I wish her the best. Yes I do think people are probably a bit jealous op.

Jealousy, racism and snobbery sadly. Especially disgusting as she is heavily pregnant.
I don't know why people can't mind their own goddamned business.

whilst people can accept royalty and their privilege if they can pigeon hole them as 'a different breed', they can't accept a regular person becoming royal as it highlights that 'it could have been them or theirs but it wasn't'.

I think you're on the money until the very last part. I think allowing MM into the RF was a bad move overall because as you said people can just about accept Royals having privilege as long as it appears that they are a special class and are subject to special rules, but with the acceptance of MM, it becomes much harder in people's minds to justify all that privilege. The RF are supposed to representative of some rather archaic ideals. There is supposed to be a mixture of mystery, of being set apart, of being 'above petty concerns' and everyday social issues, they are a symbolic tie between history and the present. The whole Diana and Charles fiasco put a big dent in that image, but perhaps the last thing that remained was the symbol of tradition.

Kate, although having no high society connections fit into that mode of tradition but MM definately does not, that's one thing but she is also the champagne type of liberal, the type that is more do-as-I-say-but-not-as-I-do. The blowback was inevitable for all the reasons above. William could not and would not have chosen her as a wife because he's intelligent enough to know that the key to the RF's longevity is the points mentioned above and its a balancing act between being progressive and traditional. Harry is having his cake and eating it because, frankly he can. I don't really think he thought about it from a responsibility point of view.

On a personal level I didn't like her as an actress and I still don't. I perceive her as a narcissist. I don't respect the way she has attempted to erase her family and background. I don't care where you come from be proud. I think people don't like that either. I don't really see any point for the RF now. I think a lot of people are now starting to feel that way.
