The royal family

To wonder if the Princes can forgive them all?

I'm not a Diana fanatic. And for years I was certainly fooled by the whole "she had issues; her mother left when she was young; she thew herself down the stairs; it was terribly hard for Charles" narrative spun out over the last 20 years.

But surely it can't be clearer that this poor young woman (barely an adult!) was like a lamb sent to slaughter.

Everything that's come out this week, the full horror of Diana's story, did the Princes know this much detail already? Have they ever forgiven those involved? How can they even look them in the eye?!

What's 'come out this week'?

It hasn't really been anything new this week.

Ok, so not 'new' new.

But I'm not old enough to remember the details the first time round this stuff came out. And I'm fairly sure more 'sources' are contributing now.

I hadn't previously given much thought to how very young she was. 19 to his 32. A poor lamb to the slaughter. An arranged married to find Charles a well bred virgin.

If all the reports from friends, staff and the original tapes are to be believed, Diana was totally sold a line and shipped off up shit creek on her own.

According to various reports Camilla was always on the scene, mocking Diana in social circles and that Charles was obsessed with Camilla and refused to give her up, according to Diana saying he refused to be the only PoW in history not to have a mistress.

To anyone with any sense the whole spectacle was always destined to end in disaster. How can the Princes look at their father and his wife knowing what their mother went through? But maybe there's just too many people to blame. The Queen, the DoE, the Spencer's, her mother, Charles and Camilla. They all had their hands in it. All of them should have known better.

What's even more intriguing is how the people of this country still bow and scrape to the royals when this whole episode showed them to be the shower of shits they really are. Hmm

I'm not a fan of the monarchy, but yeah, they groomed then gas lighted her didn't they?

They seem to have a bit of a tetchy relationship with the press. I do think there's blame there. I'm sure they understand the complexities of the Royal family better than anyone. It seems over the years that the relationship between the princes and Camilla has improved and they get on well now.

I'm not a republican. And I do believe that the Queen, the DoE and the PoW are generally good people. But, they are possibly largely responsible for the misery that Diana faced. In which case we can only hope they have learnt from their mistakes. But, are they sorry? Do they accept the parts they played? Do they shoulder the burden of regret?

I wonder who Harry meant when he said he held "people" accountable for not doing wha they should have (paraphrasing!). Perhaps not the media.

He's still the Prince of Wales, I wonder who his mistress is now.

I don't think it showed anything they didn't already know. Both princes seem to have a very good relationship with their dad and have supported Camilla too.

I'd be very surprised if they even watched it

I was very young when princess Diana passed, I remember my mum watching the news intently regarding Diana.

She always said it wasn't an accident and so forth. Now I'm older and have learnt more, I worry that Kate could be another Diana?

Does anyone else think that she better toe the line so to speak or face consequences?

No trying I don't think that's a concern at all.

If this is based on the interview tapes, I would take it all with a large pinch of salt. Unsurprisingly, they're incredibly one-sided and reflect a version of the facts that she was anxious to promote whilst hiding anything unfavourable to herself - she was clearly a highly manipulative woman. I can't feel too sorry for someone who made a habit of going after other women's husbands.

No, not at all trying. Kate Middleton's integration in to the RF was worlds apart from Diana's. No doubt because of Diana. Plus KM wasn't a child and her mother wasn't aristocratic.

The Princes clearly have every confidence in themselves to clear their own paths. Unlike previous generations who simply did what they were told.

Plus the RF don't actually kill people @ImIncognito. That's probably a detail worth mentioning.

But OP, what makes you think they're good people?

What have any of the 3 of them ever done to show they're good people?

I seriously don't get it.

DofE is a racist and a philanderer, Queen just looks permanently miserable and appears to be an utter cold fish and Prince Charles treated Diana like total shit and got away with it?

And these are people I'm supposed to curtsy to if I ever meet them? Fuck that.

Charles made a mistake in marrying Diana, not the first person to have married the wrong person, and I dare say not the last. I don't think he should be endlessly vilified for having made a mess of his marriage.
