My beloved cat has gone

The vet put our darling cat to sleep yesterday morning. She was only 6, had a massive haemorrhagic episode and they couldn't save her. I have said goodby to previous pets with sadness but this has knocked me for 6, I am utterly bereft and full of rage, what ifs and sobbing. Please help me reconcile this feeling. She was the best cat in the world to me and I loved her so very dearly. I don't know what I am going to do with myself.

I'm so sorry for your loss.bMy lovely girl left us on Sunday. It's so so hard. Give yourself time to grieve and feel sad.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's so hard isn't it, I would feel exactly the same. Sending hugs.

I am so sorry for your loss. Would you like to tell us more about your cat?

I also love my cat very much so I totally understand. It's very hard when they go too soon.

thank you she was a furry tomboy, a norwegian forest cat with a huge heart. she loved to play and followed me everywhere. i am still at the willing this hasnt really happened stage. thank you all for taking the time to reply. i know she had a good life with us and loved every minute, and I dont know whether cats can possibly 'expect' a certain lifespan but I
feel so bad that we couldnt give her more time. i thought we would grow old together.

So so sorry to hear this OP.It doesn't get any easier does it however many times we go through it.
I lost my soul cat a while ago and I couldn't stop crying in the vets surgery.Even the vet was emotional as she had guided us both tbrough her kidney failure over two and a half years.I stayed with her and it did really help.
Take care of yourself, you will come through this .

Oh I’m sorry, that’s no age to lose a cat. It gets better eventually but it’s a long slog.

I'm so sorry, OP. That's so horrible and such a shock when they're so young. I lost my girl cat over the summer after she ran at the wheels of a car. I still can't get over the waste. She was also only 4 or 5. We live on such a quiet road and I just assumed she'd still be here when the kids were going off to uni. It's devastating.

Feel free to have a few days of feeling that rage. It's fair enough. And seek out the company of people who will understand. I rang lots of fellow cat owners when it happened and felt better just for feeling vindicated in my upset and anger. And know that, while it's always upsetting, you won't always feel quite as bereft and angry as you do tonight.

A short but wonderful life, loved right to the very end and beyond.
Rage and cry all you want, it is very unfair and very painful to grieve. ((Hugs)) 💐

How are you holding up ? I think the rawness of the grief is the worst part. Blaming yourself and wishing you could change it. You never forget them, but the pain does ease, leaving nicer memories behind.

Thank you for checking in Worriesandwobbles Its really taking time, I am still having spells of feeling utterly bereft. I do know it will pass but I feel so bad we didnt save her. She was so awesome, had so much fun and is so very sorely missed. We are realising how much she ran our lives. A couple of people have said its covid and other issues that are causing/exacerbating the grief but I know thats not right, she was as important and loved as much before this situation. Anyway I have done all the practical things I can, reconciled my feelings with the vet, told the people I needed to tell, changed things around here so her favourite places look different, changed our routine a bit. And we have fantastic memories and photographs which I am sure in time will bring joy. Thank you again.

Time does heal it a bit. We lost ours on Christmas day so its still very fresh and I am in the over thinking/blaming myself stage. She was really special and it was such a shock. I don't regret her life, she was spoilt every day, but she didn't deserve that end and was not yet 4. Glad you ok ish.

Wherrsmaclickypen Wed 30-Dec-20 10:48:11

💐 worriesandwobbles how awful for you and exactly what we are feeling. My brother pointed out that every day she got to do exactly what she wanted to do and could not have been more loved and thats how we must think about it. But so hard. x
