I've got an appointment to take my ginger princess to the vet on friday. Her fur is matted, I have to puree her food and shes very slow and unsteady etc. It feel like the right time to say goodbye. I feel awful though as shes not ill ill, just frail.
I've had two other cats pts in past 6 years due to illness and I cant bear to go through that again.
Has anyone else been here with elderly cat? (19)
Hand holds very welcome!

If you feel the time is right then it is. It's absolutely true when people say you will know. It's a very peaceful and dignified way to go. It's far worse for us. But it sounds like she's had a wonderful long life with you. BrewThanksThanks

So sad. But I wouldn’t do it at the vets. My Buddy cat was pts at home so she didn’t have the stress of the visit to the vets 💐

I recently said bye to my ginger girl - she was nearly 18 and had gone downhill and become very frail - she did have underlying health issues but I felt like you. Thinking of you. Lots of hugs and love for her over these last days. You are being kind.

I agree with this. Both of my cats hate going to the vet. I would try to avoid having them end their lives there.

Better a day early than a minute too late. You’re doing the best you can for her, and you know her best. I’m sorry you’re going through this.

Buns is 19 and also frail but nowhere near ready.
But I will know when she is and when that time comes I'll be doing the same thing OP.

Thanks all for your kind comments they have really helped me on a shitty day. I didnt think I'd be this upset by making the appointment.

I had to pts my beautiful girl last January at 18 then her sister 10 months to the day in November at 19 which was so so difficult. Last year was awful, I'd had them since they were babies and the loss was awful.

You are giving her one last kindness and I know it'll be immensely painful for you. Big hugs xxx

I feel for you. We're coming close to this day with our old girl. It's so hard, but we have to do the right thing by our pets, as we do all through their lives.

Thanks for thinking of me. It was very sad but a dignified and peaceful end. The vet was lovely and agreed it was the kind thing to do.
I've ordered a realistic ornament to go in the garden as a memorial. RIP Leafy.

I’m glad it was as bearable as these things ever are. The ornament is a lovely idea Flowers

Poor old darling, you have helped her gently through this and saved her from suffering. She is lucky to have had a caring owner like you. Flowers
