Cat stressed out due to smell

Long story short, our neighbours knocked at our door this morning and asked to borrow our cat carrier. My DH obliged and leant it do them. Our cat is a rescue, has lived with us for 6 months and is very happy/comfortable with us but terrified of strangers and other cats. He left his last home because the owner got a new cat who used to attack him.

So now the carrier has been returned and DH again took it and put it in the kitchen, not realising until closer inspection it hasn’t been cleaned and smells of urine. DCat is so stressed out Sad I’m not sure what to do with him. We’ve taken carrier outside to be disinfected but he keeps walking round with a bushy tail, crying and then hiding.

Any suggestions on how to calm him? I feel awful Sad

Mr Muscle Super Oxy Pets Urine Destroyer works.

Also, after you've cleaned it, get something of his with his scent on it (wrap him in an old towel if necessary) and put that in the pet carrier.

How rude of the people who borrowed it. Give it a good clean, leave it outside as long as possible and yes put his old bedding inside afterwards.
