How to get kitten to take worming tablet?

I adopted a kitten 2 months ago (Mitten) and he’s great but I’m struggling to get his worming tablets into him. They’re a preventative measure - he hasn’t had worms (to my knowledge). The first time (as advised by the vet) I ground it up and put it into his Wet food but he ate everything but the bits of tablet. As a treat before bedtime I always give him a small amount of cat milk and he always cleans the bowl. So I tried putting the ground up tablet in one evening’s milk - but he lapped up all the milk and left behind the tablet bits. Any advice??? I’m a first time cat owner so I don’t really have a clue 🤷🏻‍♀️ Is there any other worming alternative?

Wrap it in cheese or ham
Or do it the vet way. Open his mouth wide and tipped back, pop the tablet right at the back of his tongue, escape with your fingers, hold his mouth closed

Can’t you use a spot-on wormer like Profender? I think they work from 8 weeks. You squirt a little tube on their neck, holding down the fur, and they absorb it through their skin

I forgot to say - he is adorable!

He is gorgeous! We use Stronghold which is a liquid applied behind the shoulders once a month - sold by vets. Not sure what age it is ok from.

Try grinding it up and mixing it with a little bit of jelly or gravy from his food. Much easier to see if he’s taken it all! Also, more tricky but if you manage to get it in his mouth tilt his head back and stroke under his chin/neck. That makes them swallow. He is gorgeous

Putting it in a tiny bit of chicken worked here

You can buy a pea shooter from the Vets and probably pets at home too. Pop pill in end of it, open Kitty's mouth and fire it in. It's the only way our Vet can get a worming tablet down our Little Guy's throat

I’ve tried a LOT of things and with all 4 of mine i now just don’t it normally - whole pill in their mouth. If they scrabble with their paws, wrap a towel around them quite firmly, leaving their head out, and straddle them on the floor. Use one hand around their skull, from behind, and gentle squeeze the sides to open their mouth. At the same time, put the tablet between first two fingers of your other hand, using third finger to pry open front jaw. Your other hand stops it shutting quickly. Then place it as far back in their mouth as you can. Once done, hold jaw shut and if possible squirt a few drops of water in with a syringe because it makes them swallow!

He's scrummy!

Crush it in a little bit of butter and smear it on top of his front paw (think the "back of his hand"). The need to clean it off his paw will outweigh any unpleasant taste!

put in a bit of webbox stick or switch to spot on if they're old enough

Try using Easy Pill putty. It's basically like tasty meaty playdough. Wrap up the pill and give it like a treat! Works a charm for my very clever cat who has worked out every single way of avoiding pills!

This is absolute genius and I'll be trying it next time!!

If you can get your vet to show you how they do it, it will be worth it in the long run. You basically hold the cat firmly from behind, open their mouth with your fingers and drop it at the back of their throat but easier if someone shows you. My cat had to have daily pills several times over his lifetime and I could do it in a second. He was bloody feisty too!

I usually get a dreamy, carefully cut it open, pop tablet in then glue it back together with butter. I then mix the imposter dreamy in with a few other dreamies and trick the little fucker. It's worked every time.

My old cats spoiled me by eating tablets straight from my hands (they were very greedyGrin). The two I've got now have to be force fed them, won't take them with treats, chicken, easy pill. Menaces Hmm

Greedy cat - might just eat it if you have a pile of treats on the floor

Quite greedy cat - Wrap in Webbox cat stick

Not greedy cat - fingers at back of mouth to open it, lob as far back in mouth as you can, close tight shut and rub until you feel cat swallow

Maniac cat - get the spot on drops and don't even bother trying to get cat to swallow tablet

I usually crush tablet in a bit of butter and try to put it in their mouths ends up mostly on their faces but they lick it off - seems to do the trick! I have 3 cats and have tried loads of different things to get them to take tablets, butter being the most successful.

Colin is a maniac cat, though his lust for raw meat has been utilised.

He did have one last night and he did manage to eat round it the first time. So I squish the tablet with meat juice and he had it the second time
