Is this normal or am I mad?

Hi everyone,

I’ve just got a new kitten and wanted to check if this is normal...and I’m talking about myself not the kitten 😂

But I am anxious about her all the time, I can’t bear to leave her and am now stressing about even popping into the office or a weekend away that isn’t planned for months. She is just so tiny and cute and I’m so worried about her being happy and not ever feeling lonely or scared but on the other hand I’m also aware I need a life too! She seems very happy, plays a lot and spends most of the day asleep or eating. She’s still a little jumpy when I walk in but sleeps next to me and seems to be getting more confident each day so I know she’s fine.

Is this just new kitten nerves?! Please tell me you all felt like this too and I haven’t gone completely crazy! I’ve grown up with cats but somehow her being completely mine has made me lose all rational thought!

This is why a lot of people get kittens in pairs - they keep each other company and keep the pressure off you.

I used to feel like this with my last dog. Stressed the whole time. It will fade. Especially as they get older. My cat barely notices me some days. Especially in the summer where it can go off for a few days and chase butterflies and lay in the sun.

Not everyone can afford two kittens so don’t worry op. My cat cost a fortune but was worth it.

@Fluffycloudland77 that’s exactly the situation, I’d love a second kitten but twice the vets bills/food/cat sitter is not sustainable for me at the moment. Does yours seem ok alone? I work from home now so she has loads of attention from me but so many posts on here seem to think it’s cruel to only have one and now I’m totally questioning myself!

@Paranoidmarvin your cat sounds amazing! Mine is only 10 weeks but already sleeps for most of the day so I’m hoping how chilled she is continues!

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats it’s not really financially an option for me to have a second at the moment. I work from home all the time now though so she’s very rarely alone - it was only this change in circumstance that led me to get her as I didn’t think it fair when I was at work all day, all week!

Mine was always fine. He had friends when we lived rurally he did the rounds with.

When he was a kitten Dh used to go home at lunch to see him & the cat was decidedly underwhelmed by the gesture. Sometimes he’d jump onto the windowsill to look for me, just to rub it in.

When mine were babies I missed them when I left the house. I think it’s part of the bonding process. I still love them both with all my heart, but I can do normal things now 😂

The insurance is the biggest difference between one and two. She will be fine as long as she has plenty of toys and scratch posts. Can we see her?

Well I got my two as a pair and still felt exactly the same when they were tiny. The cuteness is another feline trick to trap you into a life of servitude.

Awww, is she a bsh? We have one and he's a lovely boy. Very chilled out but not a lap cat in the slightest and likes his own space

@cosmo30 yes she is! She was initially against all contact but is now the opposite and has to be lying on me in some form at all times! (She’s currently in bed next to me lying on my arm)

Saying that though she does seem remarkably chilled for a kitten which I guess could be the breed? There is the odd crazy half an hour of zooming around but she sleeps non stop and seems pretty content just lazing around.

@brw55 What a beaut! I still feel like this now with my 4 cats, you get used to it over time but i am always excited to go back home to see my little babies 😻 miss them so much when i'm out!
