Warning re Zoflora Disinfectant

I often see people recommending Zoflora disinfectant in this forum. For those who are not aware, I think it's worth stressing that if you have pets in the house you MUST buy Zoflora Odour Remover and Disinfectant, NOT the standard Zoflora.

The original Zoflora contains a chemical called benzalkonium chloride, which is toxic to pets.

After years of complaints that Zoflora had harmed pets, they eventually produced the pet-safe Odour Remover and Disinfectant, but they stress that it is very important that we follow the instructions for use and don't let pets near surfaces until they are completely dry. They claim that the diluted Odour Remover will completely remove the smell of urine,

That pet stuff also contains benzalkonium chloride. They are all safe to use as long as it is allowed to dry before your pet walks on the surface.

@Adante I'm glad you've been lucky, but Zoflora themselves now recommend we don't use the original formula around pets. People are, of course, free to make up their own minds, but it seems rather foolish not to use the formula specifically designed for the safety of our pets.

You can use the original zoflora, you just have to make sure the floor is completely dry before allowing your pets on it

I use heavily diluted flash or home brand equivalent - no problems. However the vanish carpet cleaner gives them contact dermatitis, and so needs to be throughly hoovered before the animals are allowed back on the carpet.

And its phenols that are dangerous to pets which zoflora doesn't contain. The link says animals walked on wet floors and licked their paws - simple answer - keep them off the floor until its dry

All that seems to be different is that the fragrances have changed. Zoflora website says

All of our Zoflora Fresh Home fragrances have been specially formulated to be better tolerated by your pet's sense of smell
