TMI Warning... 6 Month old Persian and Poop!

Hi All, TMI warning in the subject as the below contains talk about cat poo..

For the past 4 days Leo has been passing soft stools. Not runny or watery, just soft and squishy. No change in diet, indoor cat only so not eaten anything he shouldn't have done (apart from a spider a few days ago - after he started with the soft stool). No change in stress levels, absolutely nothing has changed.

I rang the vet yesterday as Leo is our first cat and after reading advise on line, I left it a couple of days and they said as long as he isn't unwell (sickness, lethargy etc) then there's no need to bring him in. They said if he does show signs of being unwell to ring up and make a phone appointment.

Also he won't touch dry food at all, we're now at 7 different bags waiting to go to the local cat rescue because he just won't entertain it.

Now for the question.. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing it? He's absolutely fine in himself and other than the poop sticking to his fur (longhair + soft poop = major clean up effort) he's not stressed or unwell..

Is there any cereal in his food? Maize or maize protein etc?. Mine had soft poo if he had cereals in his diet.

He eats 2 x pouches of wet food a day (over 4 meals), topped up with cooked chicken breast.

He has no cereals in his food at all. He was passing normal solid stools until 4 days ago .

Cheddar has this issue occasionally. She was also projectile vomiting most days. I had no idea a small cat could produce so much. She also has huge poos about 2-3 times a day. I think her issue is grains. She's been loads better in Iams. The other grain free foods they won't eat and are too expensive. I've had a couple of poonamis with the other two requiring emergency hygiene trims at the vet! That was caused by meat treats!
Find a groomer for a regular hygiene trim!

@Toddlerteaplease Cat groomers where I live are like gold dust! I've managed to get him in 2 weeks today so fingers crossed we can just keep him clean until then :)

He's an inside cat, he doesn't go outside either :)

Yes. They are difficult to track down. I couldn't get hold of my usual one. So had to book a mobile one at double the price, then usual one said she was re opening. Argh!

There are hundreds of dog groomers, but not one cat groomer. I've ended up booking one in the next town as that was the one I could get him in the quickest.

I was surprised to find out that even Pets At Home groom rooms near me don't do cat grooming, and they couldn't even recommend anyone to me.

I live in Warrington. I’ve managed to find one in Widnes (not too far away)
