The litter tray

Where are you buying cat litter (online) at the moment?

I'm getting really worried about this. I don't drive and rely on online deliveries.

The past two Ocado orders (since 2nd March) it's not arrived - in stock when I order and out of stock on delivery day. I had an Amazon Fresh order with litter and other bits that also didn't arrive at all. Have ordered some from Pets at Home at the weekend but the order is just showing as processing with estimated delivery around the 20th - I don't know if I trust that will come either at this rate.

Amazon has massively hiked up their litter prices, more than double for the type we usually get (one of my cats is picky and will pee on rugs and things if she doesn't like the litter).

Where can I buy some, ideally Cats Best, and actually receive it within a couple of days?

I don't want to hear where you bought it two months ago, clearly the current situation is highly unusual and shops that were fine a few weeks ago are not fine now.

It's not the litter you use, so I don't know if this is helpful, but I bought pettex clumping cat litter from Amazon at £9 for 20l. It's being delivered tomorrow and has already been dispatched. It may be worth a try if you can't find your usual litter.

Zooplus or Amazon

Zooplus here as well but they are saying that it may take a few more days to get to you than normal

ClaraLane Thank you, that's so interesting - it is indeed still in stock on Fetch and I could get it delivered on Thursday by courier. No idea how they manage their stock as the exact same litter wasn't available with my Ocado delivery today (order placed over a week ago). Confused

I always use Fetch. I like that you can choose a one hour delivery slot.

As an update, my Fetch order that was due to come today by courier hasn't even been dispatched yet. Sad They just sent a generic email to everyone to say due to high demand orders are delayed up to 7 days, but no communication specifically about my order.

Have managed to order a bag of (not our usual) litter from Amazon and all being well that should arrive today but I can't help worrying what the coming weeks will be like.

Spoke too soon, my Amazon order is delayed too.
Getting a bit annoyed shops are happy to take my money when they clearly know they can't deliver.

I am also worried about this, I luckily did a Zooplus order last week which arrived as normal so we have one and a half bags but after that I don’t know what to do - neither of my cats will lower themselves to use the outside world for such undignified business. I have signed up for Zooplus stock alerts, Pets at Home have set up a queuing system on their website so that’s not looking good either. If countries are in lockdown I am assuming none is getting produced?

I came on to ask about cat litter.

Amazon and Zooplus and supermarkets out of Catsan right now and I couldn't add any type of litter to my supermarket order for 3rd April.

Zooplus did say it might be back in stock on the 23rd.

I've ordered some from Vetsend. It won't come 'til next Friday, but at least it's coming!

Where are you based? We’re in Hampshire and I have 2 unopened bags you can have for free. My kittens are now old enough to go outside. I think it’s Catsan (clumping) but can check tomorrow.

Very last resort... you can make cat litter out of old newspapers.

@CatTangle Thanks for the heads up, unfortunately none for delivery or collection at any of the stores near me but somewhere else I know where to keep an eye on.

@FlyingFlamingo Do you have a garden you can dig some soil out of? I’m a cat sitter and have a couple of clients who use soil.

People have been posting on and off for months that there’s a cat litter shortage. So don’t even think it’s coronavirus related. But obviously this won’t have helped now. Could you try ringing round feed merchants if you’re near any? The places which sell chicken feed and horse feed often have bit bags of cat litter.

I do have a garden if things get desperate, or isn’t there a chicken feed that some people use? Chicken feed may be more ‘essential’ than cat litter for factories to be able to keep manufacturing as normal?

Although I was able to get onto P@H last night and they had stock 🤞

Please don’t buy chicken food for your cats to shit on. I’m struggling finding food for the chickens as it is!

Dh just said buy a sack of sand from the b&q or a builders merchants.
