Cat swallowed piece of thread!

Dougal the rescue cat moved in a month ago and after a week of hiding he’s become a cat who loves to play and be fussed. Belly rubs, sleeping in my bed and chasing feathers on a string seem to be three of his favourite things. He’s not keen on climbing though but is obsessed with food!

He’s an indoor 3 year old with FIV who was found stray and spent 4 months in the rescue centre.

About 10 minutes ago he was sitting on my bed with me having a fuss and spotted a piece of thread that had come off the duvet. It was about 5 inches long. He started pawing at it so I thought he was playing but he then quickly ate it before I could do anything.

Should I be worried? Any advice on what to look out for and do? He’s now looking very proud of himself and sunning himself on his chosen chair.

Keep an eye on him. At the first sign of anything amiss go to the vet. If it comes out the other end don't pull it. He sounds a wonderful boy!

Thanks @Toddlerteaplease. He’s my first cat so I was a bit panicked. Luckily I’m off work today so I’ve been able to stay with him. I rang the vets who also told me to keep an eye on him but so far there are no problems. He had a good play earlier then was very happy to get an extra feed as advised by the vet. He’s slept all afternoon in any sunny spot he can find so fingers crossed.

He’s such a lovely cat, apart from when he wakes me up at 4am looking for attention and food. I’ve just joined so can’t post pictures yet but I have plenty to share once I can!

One of my cats at a very long thin piece of tape (like from a cassette but clear). No idea where it came from and had no idea it happened until she was running around with 30cm of tape hanging out of her bum.

She was fine 😬

Thanks everyone, he’s just insisted on 20 minutes of fuss and is lying next to me purring away. He’s so affectionate and follows me round everywhere. A big difference to the scared cat who hid under the table for a week and hissed when I got too close.

He’s obviously just trying to keep me on my toes; so far since he’s settled in I managed to stop him eating the ears he pulled off the Molly’s mice he’d had for all of two seconds, I discovered he’d silently been eating the spider plant in the hall bit by bit, he’s already trashed two tunnels jumping on them rather than in them and now he’s developed a taste for cotton thread!
