Our cat was spayed today she is very distressed. Has quietened down now but is still in her crate/ basket. She has a cone. Should we let her out or is it better to keep her calm in the travelling basket? Any advice appreciated
Try and keep her calm in the basket for as long as you can. My Millie was spayed last Thursday and had a bad reaction to the anaesthetic. My mistake was letting her out in the living room where she ran under the sofa, got her cone off and licked her wound so it became infected. The vet tells me a lot of cats are upset by the cone as it makes them feel vulnerable and they lash out. M is in a bodysuit now and doing MUCH better but never again!
Hi, as soon as any female was home after spaying, I let them have free run of the house and took come off. Never had any problems with wounds. They were much more settled with the cone removed. Just keep a close eye on them.
