The litter tray

I keep thinking I see my cat

My lovely boy was killed in an RTA just before Christmas. He was only two. Several times since then I think I see him out of the corner of my eye. He was a different colour to my other cats so I think it’s him and then realise it can’t be. It makes me feel so sad. Is this just part of the grieving process? When I’ve lost cats before it has been through illness or age, this was so unexpected

Me too. We’ve both heard him jump off the kitchen windowsill, something brushed dhs hand in bed one night, I felt a paw tread on the duvet by my back.

I saw the black cat ghost coming around the stairs the other night but that was around more before Bertie died.

We can’t all be imagining it 😔

I had a cat many years ago who died. After she died, I often used to 'see' her sitting by the back door. I think I was so used to seeing her there my brain automatically assumed she was there iyswim

I saw a glimpse of my cat exactly a year to the day after he passed away, walking casually around the corner of the sofa. I hadn't realised it was the anniversary of his death until after I 'saw' him.

Only saw a flash of his tail, but it was definitely him!

I didn't believe in woo stuff until after that- I still don't for humans, but maybe cats do live on Smile I believe you have seen your boy. There must be some sort of feline afterlife.

Poor you. I'm so sorry for your loss. My mum still trips over her cat on a morning, he's been gone for 5 years. She also leaves a tunnel behind the radiator for him to keep warm in and she swears he uses it. I've seen him on the fence in the sun several times out of the corner of my eye. It may be because you get so used to it or it maybe something a bit more special. A well loved cat never leaves you really.

We lost our furbaby last year and I swear I've seen him out of the corner of my eye. It doesn't help that our other cat is still pining for him and just looks super miserable since he passed

The only time my beautiful cat slept in bed next to me was the night after she was pts. They are with us forever if we've been kind to them. Flowers

My beautiful old boy was pts on nye and I know exactly what you mean. I see him all over the house, hear him coming upstairs or jumping from furniture in another room. I suppose a lot of the noises I always assumed were the cat wandering about at night were just the house creaking and things. Anything black that I catch in the corner of my eye - a jumper on the sofa, a shadow in the hall - my brain makes cat-shaped.

I spend so much time looking at cat rescue sites and adverts for kittens online, I don’t know why but it’s really comforting somehow, even though I know I’m not ready to get another cat yet. I haven’t been without a furry friend for over 25 years! It just doesn’t feel right at all :(

My Morphy returned..twice. Once just after he'd been pts, and a second time to my daughter who was very upset (she's an adult and not given to flights of fancy) He jumped up on the bed and brushed against her and was there a few moments, then gone.

I suspect it takes a while for their 'essence' to drift away.

It is definitely real. I’ve seen my cats before. But my last cat. I had for 15years and he was so close to me, I’ve never seen him. I don’t know why. He’s been gone a year, and no sign of him. I was sure he’d come back to visit me.

I see only one of my many lovely cats. He was 20 and PTS 3 years ago. I sometimes feel him jumping onto the bed, see him in the street and in the house. He was the most beautiful boy and such a character.

So sorry for your loss.

I have often felt the presence of past cats and seen they out of the corner of my eye. I do think it’s your brain that is automatically putting them where they have always been though
Sorry for your loss

My wee cat was knocked down by a car right outside my house just over a year ago. She had only turned 1 year old. Every now and again when I'm lying in bed at night I feel like something is walking over me. Feels exactly like what she used to do before coming under the covers with me for a cuddle. It's comforting in a way but also brings back painful memories.
Take care of yourself Thanks

Poor you OP. It's just horribly sad.

Our family cat died nearly 20 years ago. When I'm at my parents' house I still see her in my peripheral vision, especially in her favourite spots to curl up and snooze.

I once heard my old boy running up the stairs, he was a big heavy-footed lad who always sounded like a herd of elephants. The weird thing was, my other two cats were asleep on the bed at the time and they both sat bolt upright and looked towards the bedroom door so they heard him too Confused It was strangely comforting Smile

I wonder how many people see dead relatives out the corner of their eye?.

I work with older people, you’d be surprised how many of them say they’ve seen their deceased spouse shortly after death.

My dad hears the chain collar our old dog used to wear. He sits in his chair, lifts his coffee mug and puts his other hand down to stroke her Sad and she died 25 years ago

We lost our boy almost two years ago. I’m not ashamed to say that I have wept buckets reading this. I can’t remember him. My husband was so, so upset that his name is never mentioned. I don’t know if I could bear the pain of seeing him, only for him to disappear.

Want2beme · 04/02/2020 23:29

Oh pink, it is hard. My other darling boy used to come to me in my dreams and occasionally still does. When he died, I couldn't speak about him for several years without crying. It took longer for me to look at photos of him. Even the mention of his name broke my heart. One day your husband will be ok to talk about him and you'll be able to share your lovely memories of him Flowers

Thank you. Still bawling just reading your answer. I hope so - he was such a special boy. He could open cupboards by standing on his hind legs and walking backwards whilst grasping the handle.Smile.
They are so special, these little lads, aren’t they?

So sorry for your loss. I think it is quite common to 'see' your cat or sense their presence after they have died. We lost our beloved cat to a car accident 2.5 years ago. I was distraught. For weeks afterwards I would feel her jumping up on to my bed at night like she did every night when she was alive. This doesn't happen any more but I do dream about her sometimes. I still miss her so much. Would love to have another cat eventually but they cannot be replaced. Looking at photos and remembering her with DD helps. It will hurt less with time Flowers

Have been today and reserved two lovely boys at our local shelter. They can’t replace Jack but we have love to give and these boys needed a home as their previous owner had a serious illness and needed to let them go.
