How many cats is too many?

Some how (?) I've ended up with seven. Varying in age from 10yo to 4mo. Indoor/outdoor. Enough indoor space so they can have alone time. An acre outside. They all get on. Gallons of feliway also 😆

Cute! Personally I think as long as they're all happy, healthy and have their needs met, which yours sound like they do, then any number is fine.
We have 3 now, the oldest is 9 the youngest is a 7 month old rescue kitten.

One of my cats decided that four was too many. He moved in with my neighbour and her two cats, so he clearly felt that three was the ideal number.

We still see each other in passing, and he speaks to me, so no hard feelings.

What about the vet bills especially as they older? I think as long as you can also cover that as insurance doesn’t pay for everything. We have 2 cats and one is picking up a lot of health problems recently and it’s costing a fortune.

The actual practical number of cats is n-1, whereby n = the number of cats you already have.

I might have just had two furry bastards thundering across the settee in hot pursuit of one another and nearly knocking my precious cup of tea (made with the last Yorkshire teabag in the house and it's blowing a hooley out there) over.

The happiness number, however is always n + 2(0.75) rounded to the whole number. In other words, there's always room for a couple of kittens. Because they're so small and cute, how could they ever be any trouble at all?


Now if you'll all excuse me, it sounds as though I have a pot plant to rescue and repot, plus some vacuuming to do. Bastards

I always end up with three! One dies (old age and/or FIV) then a random kitty sneaks its way into my home heart

If I had a huge house in the middle of the country and unlimited funds, I'd happily live with 100+ cats

I always thought three was the perfect cat number. 7 is just two sets of three and a spare one just incase. So I'm good 😁
I don't have to worry about vets fees too much as a)they are insured b)it's my day job.
I just wish they lived as long as us. I lost my oldest girl in April and have collected 3 newbies in some sort of grief fest. She was really irreplaceable and took a massive bit of me when she went.

We've just gone from two to three for the first time and it's lovely. The young ones play and leave the old one alone, which is all she wants

Er coastergirl what are you implying?! . 12 is a lot, granted. They're a full time job. But I love them all to bits and it makes me happy to know they have a fantastic life when some of them had a pretty miserable existence before they came to me. I'm lucky that they all get on so well
