Kitten Never Shuts Up!

We have had our first family kittens for seven months now, got them when they were nine week old rescues. They are hilarious little terrorists but one of them just doesn't shut up all day. He follows me around talking to me like one of the kids. When it's dinner time or he goes to sleep it's that same relief as when the kids were babies and you'd get them to sleep 😂😂😂. He is a brute now but was the runt of the litter who apparently really missed his mummy when they were rescued. Is there anything I can do to encourage him not to narrate every second to me?? He's not in any pain at all, just very talkative! I swear his brother rolls his eyes at times as he only meows if he's starving.....

Might sound daft but can he hear?? Deaf cats meow a lot and loudly as they can't hear themselves. If he is of sound hearing then he is just chatty and annoying ha ha

He can definitely hear. He knows when I open the press with his food even though every single press is the same in the kitchen. We did have a cat that talked quite a bit when I was younger but this fella is just unreal. If anyone else is telling a story he is pushing to get in front to tell his story 😂

That is really really cute Grin

Mine isn't too chatty but when he needs a wee he'll come and say 'out, out'. Then when he comes back in he comes looking for me saying what sounds like 'muuuu-uuuum'

He's the best boy ❤️

He is so cute. Love the stripy tail! Snorg used to silently meow. Then started quacking like a duck, and under Cheddar's influence has become much louder! Both of their hearing is fine!

He is lovely! Maybe he is very vocal because of anxiety about being runt of litter? What about getting him a basket that is just for him? I have an anxious cat and his basket seems to really comfort him. Cats are quite proprietary with their own things and that might soothe him. Rogz do great ones

I could try that Bovaryx although he generally likes to sleep wherever his brother is but a new bed from Santa might be a good idea 😉

I have similar aged boy kittens - one talkative and one not - I'll swap and you can have the talkative one and he'll keep yours company?

Disclaimer he's also a complete arsehole but is at least very cute

I have one like that although he's still tiny, doesn't matter what he's doing he'll be chatting away. Never really here a peep out of the other kitten

How about a comfort teddy or other soft toy that smells of you?

my rescue boy came to me at 6 months, and all he had was a creaky little maow.

then, at my ex-partner’s house, with 3 other cats, he was still silent but grew a high-pitched SQUEEEEEE when he decided it was food time.

now, it’s just me and him and he will Not. Shut. Up. it’s awesome. i get shouted at when his tray needs cleaning, he chirps and trills and MIAOWS and it’s lovely. he’s asleep next to me now and he’s just done a windy little sigh, whickering like a little tiny horse.

i sound mental. i do love my cat and his ever-increasing vocal range though.

Oh he has such an earnest little face!

exWife my topcat does the same. Chirps, chunners and squeaks. She also does a purr/mmm combo, in pure delight when I come home and long into the evening. Unfortunately she also does the 'WAH! WAH! WAH! WAH! WAH! WAH!!!' thing if something is not to her liking eg. the kitchen tap isn't left running long enough. Or too long. Sigh Confused

Lol they're all mad by the sound of it! Aside from me he really loves his brother. I've never seen cats like them. They are the absolute best of friends and sleep curled up together all the time.

My Siamese hasn't shut up in the 14 years we've had him, think it's a bit late to hope for different.

The picture of him with his brother is superb! I wish my two got along like that, it’s lovely to see! Changed my mind about cat basket and think you should get a dog basket so they can still sleep intertwined!
