How do I stop my siamese scratching the carpet?

I live in a rental property with my three cats. The siamese in particular is being a pain. He scratches the carpet a lot. I've got rugs and door mats down, but he scratches next to them Hmm I've got a scratching post that he never uses.

Tbh I think he's not right in the head! In a charming siamese way obviously. Actually, I guess he's just being a siamese! I cope with all his weird ways most of the time, but he's going to ruin the carpet.

Is there ANYTHING I can do?

I've tried the spray you can buy, it made no difference at all. I've played with him, told him off, picked him up ... nothing helps.

He's 10, and it's nothing new, but the house I live in now has lovely carpet and I can't afford to replace it.

Any suggestions at all welcome.

Could you try a horizontal scratcher rather than a scratching post

Sisal door mats are a good scratching option for cats. IKEA ones are £3.

Does he need his claws trimming?

Any horizontal scratcher you'd recommend?

He does need his claws clipping, but it makes no difference to whether he scratches or not. I also can't find the clippers since moving in Blush

There's no Ikea nearby, but I can look elsewhere. It seems whatever I provide, he prefers the carpets. I'm at my wits end.

These are our 2 scratchers (complete with cats!). They came from zooplus I think

Apart from your oversight with the pic?
Does he like cat nip?
The stinkies refill catnip in a cardboard scratcher is a big hit here.

I'd second the horizontal cardboard scratcher idea. My daft boy was not in the least interested in the normal scratching post I spent ages choosing (ended up on the tip) but loves the big cardboard horizontal scratcher to both lounge on and to scratch. I got mine from Amazon in a sort figure of 8 shape - petfusion do them (expensive) and easipet do a much less expensive version.

TheQueef, apart from my oversight with the pic? Sorry, I don't understand.

I've had a cardboard scratcher before and none of the cats touched it. Two of my cats are quite good at scratching the scratching post, although I've just realised they're not as good at scratching it here as they used to be in the old house, they also occasionally scratch the carpet, they just don't go for it as vigorously as the Siamese! Maybe I need to move it ... I'll look for catnip spray too ...

Here's the vandal ... he's definitely thinking about where he's going to scratch next in that photo ... he's sadly had ear problems, so they're not as beautiful as they used to be, but to me he's beautiful ❤

I bought some horizontal scratching pads and scattered cat nip on them .. my other two cats love them, but my siamese is still scratching the carpet next to them Hmm There's no hope is there?

I don’t have ideas on how to stop him but do you have any carpet stores nearby where you could get samples of similar carpets and put them down as mats?

I've got mats all over the place, looks really untidy .. and yet he scratches between the mats! I feel like if there was only a square centimetre of carpet left, he'd still scratch on that! Confused
