Hi I’ve got a new Ragdoll kitten (who’s totally gorgeous). I had 4 weeks free insurance with petplan, do you think that I should stay with them, are they a good company to use? Tia

I am going to renew with my kitten as I've had positive experiences with them in the past. However I'm going to increase it to the £7,000 for life cover because if my previous cat Troy had lived longer than he did the £4,000 wouldn't have been enough.

Yes, I recommend Petplan. My cat came with a free month of Petplan and 2 weekend 3 days in he had congestive heart failure. Almost died, had to claim almost £3000 on the insurance while still on trial. So I upgraded the trial and got the cover that went up to £7000 a year. They always paid out, directly to the vet too. He didn't live a long life but he was always covered and had whatever care he needed.
I have always used them since and am using them on my 3rd cat shortly.

My four are all with Petplan as was my previous cat. They were great with my old lady and we claimed lots over the years. I now have the 7k lifetime cover for all of them.

I think they start out a bit more expensive than most insurance policies BUT they don't go up massively - the most I paid when my girl was 15-17 was £38 per month, but I've heard from others who are with various other companies how their premiums have gone up to £60-80 a month over the years!

l've always used Petplan. lnsured my two dogs with them 30 years ago, and l have it for my three rabbits (and the one we lost four years ago). Never had a problem with them, our vets are very good and let me just pay the excess up front, then they claim the rest back from Petplan. They're not the cheapest, but l wouldn't use anybody else.

Petplan lifetime insurance with as high a premium as you can afford. All my pets have been insured through them and I’ve never had an issue at all.

I'd stay with Petplan on lifetime cover. Looks expensive for the first few years but totally pays off in later years.

I read here on mumsnet that the Sainsbury's pet insurance is exactly the same as PetPlan but cheaper. They're both Alliance. I haven't double checked that the T&Cs are word for word the same, and also worth asking your vet if they would be able to claim directly from the insurance with Sainsbury's (this saves you having to front it and claim it back). One of mine is on PetPlan due to a pre-existing condition, the other is on Sainsbury's with the same cover and the difference is around 8 quid a month.

Oh good grief, she's stunning!

I'd say she's a Blossom or a Posy or Flossie, but some cats don't like the SS sound. Bonnie?

@TailsoftheManyPaws I think she is but then I’m biased. Hmmm kinda like Flossie that could be a contender thanks.

I have used Tesco (no claims) and am with Bought by Many £15k lifetime cover now. They paid out with no issues when my cat needed xrays/bloods done
