Ours was a tiny little black rescue cat in the 80's, named Samantha. Despite her size, she ruled our house for 17 years Grin She was beautiful, loving and affectionate but also demanding, neurotic and thick as shit. She HATED going outside despite us living in the lovely countryside and would appear at every window crying if we dared to put her out Hmm She would literally steal food off your plate (chicken and pork chops were her favourite) but refuse to eat cat food and would regularly go on hunger strike Confused

She was the daftest little thing with the loudest purr and 25 years later I still think about her 😻

Ours was a very timid tabby called Dragon. My parents adopted her when they were first married in 1977. She lived to 18. She avoided us as children. I thought the name was an ironic one. But they only told me last year that it was after Bel and the Dragon from the book of Daniel.

Ours was a white cat with one green eye and one blue eye, imaginatively called Kitty. She was poisoned and I can remember our next door neighbour stroking her while she lay dying. I must have been about 4.

Not my very first, because I don't really remember him, but Paddy Cat was from a friend of friend of a friend. She was the runt of the litter, tiny little scrap. Mum was told he was a boy though... guess how we found out she wasn't 🤦🏼‍♀️. She was a right bad tempered mardy arse but utterly adored, thoroughly spoilt and ruled the roost til she was 20.

My parents got a lovely black & white boy called Mr Snudge the year before I was born, and took in a pretty little grey kitten when I was about a year old. Those two cats were my childhood companions & best friends. My mum says I used to love dropping food for Mr Snudge from my high chair. He died a few months before my 18th birthday & the little female, Whisky, who was the most affectionate cat ever, lived until I was 20. They are still remembered fondly & with much love 35 years later.

Pussles, a black and white stroppy thing that my mother found abandoned in the veg garden. She slept with me every night I was at home from when I was a baby until she died at 19/20. she was the type of cat that got on the bed first and you had to sleep around her

A tortie girl who was a pregnant stray, she gave birth to 4 kittens in our wardrobe whom we found homes for then got her spayed. I don’t know what happened to her. My next cat was when I was 16 a black boy called Ebony tried to take him away to uni with me but he hated being an indoor cat, he got killed on the road Sad
Then I had three cats for a long time and have recently got three new cats.

Oh some sad and happy stories here.

We got a farm kitten thinking it would bring out Samantha's maternal side. So didn't work, she battered him for ten years and ripped his ear to shreds. He didn't give a fuck though, he'd look at her like Hmm and pinch her favourite spot in front of the fire Grin

First one was a tabby called Jack who I tried to flush down the toilet (I was a toddler)
Then had a white kitten with black markings called Louise who ran away.

I'm a much more responsible cat owner as a grown up Grin

Mine was a beautiful long haired white cat called Lucy.

She lived til she was 18 and turned from an arsehole to a softy in later life

We got a little black kitten from a pet shop when I was 7 (goes against all I believe in now); last of the litter and cost £2. I insisted on calling her Fluffy. She was a short haired cat but it could have been worse.
She climbed up a huge sycamore tree a week after being spayed at 6 or 7 months old (my parents nearly had kittens at that); had a best mate who lived a few doors down then they both reached 4/5 years old and hated each other. She always wanted to befriend non cat people. She once jumped off the wardrobe landing on my boyfriends bum during an early sexual encounter.
Sadly she had hyperthyroidism and fits as she got older and had to be PTS at about 13. My dad had to take her as he wasn't working at the time and he found it very traumatic even though he never shows emotion. I was at uni so my parents called me to tell me. I knew the previous time I was there would be the last time I'd see her but I am still annoyed they never let me know before she went only after.

A black cat called Bridget (can't remember why I chose that name) who was actually male. He had the most character of any cat I've known. His favourite food was cucumber. He also loved raw potato. He used to jump on my shoulders and would stay there while I did stuff round the house. He slept on my bed every night, normally under the duvet. I lived in the countryside and he used to catch baby rabbits. He was a prolific hunter. He was 15 when he died.
