The litter tray

Terrible accident and now our kitty is gone

Our 1 year old tabby was under the car unbeknownst to me and when I started off our drive she got stuck under the back wheel. I felt it and in my gut guessed what had happened but hoped I was wrong.

Cue mad dash to the vets with very upset kids in the back who had witnessed it all (was on my own). I was very upset myself and feel awful that I might have left them with awful memories of this.

I knew it was very serious but had hope when the vet said she might be treatable depending on what her internal injuries were.... then got a call about an hour later to say she had passed. I'm glad at least she would have been medicated and hopefully not in pain but devastated that I did this to our beautiful little kitty, and devastated for my kids who adored her.

Hand hold please Sad

I have a fear of doing this as my cats are often hiding under the car or come to greet me as I'm reversing into the drive. Glad I have a reversing camera sometimes. Sorry for your loss Flowers

Oh man, I'm so sorry. How awful for you but so so easily done. My cats love hanging out under the car and are experts at remaining hidden while they do it. Please be kind to yourself, it could have happened to anyone.

Thank you all. So mad at myself for not checking under the car.

So sorry Flowers These terrible accidents do happen and you really can’t blame yourself.

I am ok, thanks, it is tough back at home though and thinking she was only pottering around here this morning. She was such a part of the family.

It happens, I’ve known other people do this too and it’s not your fault. Awful thing for you to see though.

Op, when I was a child, I saw my dad accidentally run over my kitten in our driveway. It was horrible - but I’m. It scarred by it, still love my dad and never thought it his fault.

Terrible accident is what it was. Don’t be too hard on yourself.

Flowers for you. I hope you’re PK, and the DC too. I can only imagine what that must have been like.

My youngest cat likes to hang out in the drive and greet the car - quite often I make a DC get out to supervise cat antics! He is also a heart-in-mouth road-crosser. If harm ever comes to him as a result I won’t blame the car driver. So you shouldn’t keep blaming yourself (although I know it’s probably impossible).

Thanks to all, these messages do help. I will never not check again.

Hard to think of the poor baby sleeping at my feet last night and gone now.

I'm so sorry for you & your family.
Try not to beat yourself up too much as it's not like you did it on purpose.
Though that's easily said & I know (tabby mum here too) I would be feeling as devasted as you.
Sending you unMNetty hugs Flowers

Eek. My phone changed my words. I’m not scarred.

Don’t feel guilty, it was an accident.

This happened to our first cat, my poor Mum reversed off the drive and she ran behind the car. She took herself off to the back garden to pass away. I was about 10, and clearly remember Mum picking me up from school in tears.... And I remember blaming myself because she was coming to pick me up when it happened!

I certainly never blamed my Mum. It was an accident.

I hope you're all ok and I'm very sorry for your loss.
