I have a beautiful baby girl cat, she's not quite 2 yet. She has single pawedly got me through the last year or so of MH issues just be being the best and most loving cat I've ever known. I love her more than most people.

She came in about 9pm last night and was a bit quiet and off her food. Came down this morning and she went to jump on the windowsill but couldn't get up, she then collapsed and couldn't walk and was trying to crawl away from me but couldn't get up.

I rushed her to the emergency vets, by which time she could walk again but seemed really dazed and confused. Normally at the vets she is constantly trying to climb up onto me and hide but she just laid on the table with her eyes half closed.

They have kept her in for observation and tests.

Please please keep everything crossed that she is going to be ok. I really don't think I could cope with losing her.

I am so sorry to hear that she seems so poorly. I hope the emergency vet will be able to find out what's causing this and she will be ok. She sounds like a very loving cat.

Oh I'm so sorry OP, will be thinking of you and your cat with everything crossed. She sounds lovely, all you can do is be as good to her as she has been to you and make the best decisions for her care. I know how much pets can help with MH

Didn't want to read and run. It sounds like she's in the best place for her right now and is lucky to have such a swift acting mum. Sending lots of positive thoughts Thanks

Thanks everyone. She's a very special girl. She always seems to sense when my mood is low or anxiety is high and won't leave my side. The house just feels empty without her.

I will keep everything crossed for her, she's in the right place now. It must be so stressful for you but try not to panic, they will find out what causing this.

How is she with drinking water? Maybe she was dehydrated and the hot weather contributed to it.

Did the vet give some idea of when they'd call you?

She has a water fountain and drinks quite a lot of water, it's not been overly warm here yet so don't think it's dehydration's.

They just said later this afternoon once they had run the blood tests.

Fingers crossed, she's ok. It's awful when they aren't well. They are such an enormous part of our lives.

Vets have phoned.

She has stage 3 kidney disease, it's affected her heart and blood pressure which is why she collapsed.

They are putting her on fluids for 48 hours and then scanning her on Monday to check for cysts and tumours.

Even with special food and medication the prognosis is a year at the most. She is 18 months old. How is this fair??? I can't stop crying x

I’m so very sorry OP. It’s not fair at all. She’s just a baby still. All I can say is to choose quality of life over extension. Flowers

Ah that is awful, I'm so sorry. It's very unfair when she's so young, it's something that normally happens to older cats. It must be a big shock.

The best thing you can do is keep her comfortable at home and feed her the renal foods. She may need fluids from time to time to give her a boost. As PP said, quality of life is the main thing. Flowers

For what it's worth, my cat was diagnosed with kidney failure at 15 and I was told she had 12-18 months tops. Of course I was devastated but I knew she was old and had a good life, so I just tried to look after her as best I could. More than 3 years later she's still with us and doing really well, her bloodwork is showing that the disease has progressed much more slowly than expected. We have her on the renal food and give fluids at home twice a week.

Obviously I'm not suggesting the vets are wrong and of course they have to prepare you, but some cats do really well once they start getting treatment. All you can do is take each day as it comes.

Another positive story our dcat collapsed with kidney failure at 12. She's still with us 6 years later on daily pills but doing well. Will keep my fingers crossed for you and hip your little cat is ok.
