Hi, we are currently feeding our 2 cats Thrive cat food, but its pretty expensive. I definitely prefer to feed them a cat food that's more meat than anything else, so not the typical supermarket brands. I've been on Zooplus and there are so many brand choices! Can anyone please recommend any? Thanks so much.

Do you mean wet or dry food or both?

My cats have Felix pouches, love them & are very healthy. (Mine only like the fishy ones).

They are often derided as being only 4% meat, but in fact it’s 4% named meat, & if you look at the ingredients there’s really nothing other than meat, meat by-products, fish & fish by-products, apart from minerals & a bit of sugar - no cereal or anything.

I have tried them with proper meaty things like Bozita but they just prefer Felix Grin

I feed mine encore dry which is 80% meat. They then eat gourmet perle sachets, gourmet solitaire tins. I have tried them with better quality wet food but they won't eat it

Mine loved Lilly’s kitchen trays for a while, we are back on thrive and meowing heads I am afraid. Would love something cheaper too!!

I tried a few brands for zooplu - I remember Animonda was one - she refused it!

Will keep an eye I. This thread.

Also watching .

I looked in supermarkets and Petstore , the pouches seem to be the most popular .
When I had our old cat , the tins were solid , smooth textured food . Now it seems to be the pouches with the small chunks in jelly or gravy .
Our old cat only licked the jelly and left the chunks.

Our new cars are on Whiskas (its what they were eating when they came here and I don't want too many changes too quickly)

I've tried some Sheba pouches and HighLife ( just on one day) to see how they go, and some Applaws biscuits .

I've read on here about Grain Free .
Which wet foods are recommended ?

Mine eats mainly wet, high meat content and grain free.

Lilly’s kitchen isn’t good, can get it for about 40 - 50p a tray. SHe loved it when she was a kitten, loved the adult food for a while, deeply offended by it now.

She ate James Wellbeloved for a while - hates that now.

Loves thrive, loves meowing head and love love loves applaws (but not complete).

Is a big fan of shredded meat and chicken.

She has a small portion of applaws dry for snacks during the night.

She is spoiled rotten.

Can I ask about tinned fish as a treat?

I am Confused

I've read:

Don't use fish in oil (too high in Omega fats)
Don't use fish in brine (too salty)
Don't use fish in tomato (they cannot taste spice and some have garlic/onion which can be toxic)

Can they have fish in tins? ( We don't eat it , we're vegetarian except DS who won't eat fish)

Why not just buy a fish cat food?

They have fish cat food , I thought they might like sardines or something (with all the little heads and soft squidgey bones ) as a treat .

Thanks all for your recommendations. Apologies, I should have said I was talking about wet food. The cats have a mix of James Wellbeloved dry food with the thrive wet chicken. I have placed an order with Zooplus for about 5 different brands, just a few tins/pouches of each to try - I will keep you posted on whether they like them. I will also try the meowing heads. With regards to fish, I do occasionally give them tuna, but the one which comes in spring water.

I said Lily’s kitchen isn’t good - meant is good. Sorry!

It’s a good price too if your monsters will eat it

I have found my monster systems between foods. Apparently it’s instinct to ensure they get a variety of nutrients.

This morning she ate a full Lily’s kitchen tray after refusing it for months.

Don’t throw anything away, hey will come back round to it.

Mine are currently on high life, which is a bit cheaper than Lily's. I found the sainsbury's grain free pouches very good and cost-effective, but girlcat went off them.

For dry we've always just used purina.

In terms of fish treats, applaws do mackerel fillets that both my cats go mad for!

I bought some of the Sainsburys ones today as a matter of fact Grin

I saw the "Grain Free" and thought I'd try them out . They've had two flavours (half a pouch each of two flavours) and it seems to have been well received .

Also got some "Encore" biscuits ( Grain Free) I think they might be Sainsburys ones too.

I'm going to try different things , rule out anything they hate in case they're fickle .

Encore dry is by the same manufacturer as Applaws. I buy them from Asda for my boys

Hi my two started on Sheba pouches, but I wanted something without the sugar and I was disappointed that you can't recycle the pouches.

I bought a load of trial packs from Zooplus too, and have settled on Bozita for now. I had to mix it with Sheba for the first week and a half to wean them off it tho. They both seem to like it now (at the moment)

They have JW dry too which doesn't touch the sides!
