Cat not eating wet food

Hi, has anyone had any experience of this? My cat has stopped eating her wet food (breakfast and tea) but will happily have the dry food I leave out. She goes over to the wet food when given and will lick/sniff it then walk away. I'm thinking she's ok as she's still active and still eating something. Is she just being fussy I wonder?!

My cat goes through phases of refusing wet food, she is also very fussy and will only eat shredded style foods like Blink or Applaws. She will often like a food one day and refuse it the next! She is also quite sensitive about dry foods so she’s not an easy one really, but she is cute so I put up with her funny ways Grin

Have you changed anything recently?

Had this with one of mine. He suddenly decided he only wanted dry food and started losing weight. He can only tolerate small amounts of dry food at a time and I struggled to get enough into him.

I feed wet twice a day and dry at lunch. Everything is measured out and given at set times then taken away if not finished. Once he realised I was serious and he couldn't pester me for crunchies anymore he started eating some wet because he was hungry.

He tended to just lick off the jelly or gravy so I would wait until he stopped eating and add a cat gravy sachet to the dry meat and he would go back in for seconds and eat a bit more meat.

Some cats can be perfectly happy just eating dry food but I prefer to do both because cats aren't natural drinkers so can get dehydrated. There are calculators online where you can work out how many calories your cat needs based on ideal weight/sex/neutered or entire/age. You can use that to weigh out the right amount of dry food per day for your cat and see if they're eating enough food.

Try changing from gravy to jelly or vice versa.

I have given up. My vet said to keep going but honestly I was fed up with buying cans of really expensive cat food and him not eating it. Or he would half and then refuse the next half.

He much prefers just normal meat. So tuna ( which he can’t have as it makes him sick ) chicken or fresh fish. I give him some of that every few days.

Everyone said he should eat it. But not much point in buying it if I’m throwing it away everyday.

Thanks. It's usually the jelly that I offer so will get a couple of pouches if the gravy stuff today and see if that tempts her!
