Just had to say goodbye.

One of lovely female cats had to be put to sleep today. It's all come as bit of a shock as she was only 8, seemed fine at the weekend, a bit out of sorts yesterday but this morning she couldn't really move.
I took her to the vet and as soon as the vet saw her she indicated that it didn't look good. They did a few blood tests and confirmed that she wasn't going to get better.
Thankfully my lovely neighbour stayed with the children and I was able to go and be with her at the end. I think that had helped as I was feeling so guilty about possibly not being with her. I was amazed at how quickly and peacefully it was all over, and I can't fault the compassion shown by the vets we saw.
We've had her since she she was born. Her mother was a feral cat who gave birth to 4 kittens under the shed at our old house. We ended up keeping all 5 of them. Sadly we now only have 3 as one of the boys vanished 18 months ago. She was such a friendly cat and loved her cuddles. She spent most of the time asleep on the edge of the trampoline or on a surface in thd kitchen that she wasn't actually allowed on (& she knew it!).
I think I'm just a bit in shock about it all. DH is working away this week so everything has fallen to me.
I'm not actually sure of the point of this post I guess I just wanted to write it down. Sorry for the rambling.

I’m sorry, that’s awful to go through especially when your on your own too.

It was better than her suffering though.

Very sad. Well done for taking care of everything yourself & making sure she didn't suffer Flowers

You gave her a lovely life, and said yourself how peaceful her leaving was.
Totally totally shit for you though and the pain is horrible.
I can feel it from here, and the only way I can think of getting rid of it is to throw a plate at the wall, but if I do that I will scare the hell out of my teenager.
I am with you.
Peace to you x

I'm so sorry you had to let her go Flowers Been through it myself very recently and its hard when they go downhill so quickly. Remember the lovely life she has had with you and you were there for her right to the end, not letting her suffer.

Thank you all for the kind words. I keep thinking I'm ok and then the tears start again. DS 7 is so upset, I've promised him we'll buy a special photo frame tomorrow and put a lovely photo of her in it for his bedroom.
I feel emotionally drained.

She had a lovely life with you. One of mine was also only 8 and I think the fact that she was so young makes it worse.

The special photo frame is a nice idea for your son. If you have a garden space maybe he could pick a special plant for the garden now the weather is picking up too? There's also the poem about the Rainbow Bridge but not sure if that might be a bit upsetting for him (always pricks my eyes, even before our loss). Tears will probably catch you out for a while, it's still early days for you.
