The litter tray

What on earth is this??

Noticed it on my cat this evening. It’s on the front of her back leg so hard to spot (and it’s under all her fur) but I saw it when she jumped up onto me for cuddles.

She’s still an indoor cat as we have a lot of big cats round here and ours are still only babies (although they’ve been spayed/chipped) so she hasn’t got it from being outside.

It looks like a big scab that’s become infected but the skin around it is very red and raw, maybe from her licking it. I’ve put on her naughty suit that she got when she pulled out her surgical stitches, as it covers the area so she can’t keep licking at it and will call the vets in the morning.

She seems okay in herself, maybe a little less hyperactive than normal but still eating fine etc. Obviously I’ll get her seen to tomorrow but I just wondered in the meantime what it could be? I’ve had cats before and never seen anything quite like it. A bite maybe? Her sister and her are very close and although they play fight, they never fight aggressively.

Apologies for the gross picture by the way

Looks like an infected bite. You’ll have to take her in today for treatment because they hide illness really well.

Yep looks like an infected bite or possibly a pellet wound as it's so uniform and round. Either way it needs a vets visit today and probably some antibiotics. As pp said they are very good at hiding pain and illness so don't feel bad for not noticing!

Ah just read op properly and seen she is indoor so can't be a pellet wound! That'll teach me not to skim read lol!

Thanks ladies, I’m waiting on the vet getting back to me for an appointment today. It’s such a strange looking wound, hopefully they can clean it up and give her some antibiotics. Not the first course she’s had and we’ve only had her since the end of September 🙄
