The litter tray

Has anyone every put their cat in a coat/jumper?

Don't laugh!
Poor Obie is really matted again..usually he doesn't matt up til spring but his coat is astoundingly thick and he won't let any of his wives groom him (that's me and the other two women he frequents) I am going to have to book him in for a sedated shave ..I don't think they have any hope of just grooming it under sedation.

But it's winter... do you think I could possibly put a cat (or rather dog as he's 25 pounds) coat on him for the first week or so? I don't want him shivering but he will NOT stay in. Has anyone ever tried?

(and yes I'd post pics....)

I’d put a coat on in the house but not outside. What if he got caught on something?

I have cats and horses

My cats are not long haired but in respect of my horses if I clip them in the winter then I definitely rug them, so I would say yes your cat would need a coat. Whether he would wear it is another matter Smile

I can't see why a dog coat wouldn't fit

I put my cat in a doll's dress when I was a kid - resulting in several scratches for me, one shredded dress, and one deeply insulted cat.

Based on that experience, I can't say they take to dressing up all that much.

One of mine overgrooms and wears a checked shirt.

Baby clothing size 0-3 months is cat size.

I tried to put a jumper on my cat once.
My doctor says the scarring should fade in 3 to 5 years

We had to use a rabbit coat ( very small petite cat ) when we had her spayed as she could get out of the lampshade collar. Got it from the vet but basically a skinny babygrow. She could go to the litter box etc in it. She went mental for a good 3 hours trying to get it off but once she realised she couldn't she did ignore it and washed it ( licked )...

Maybe they could just cut the matted bits out? Poor Obie. He really is his own worst enemy.

Hahahaha no! I value my life Grin

I'd worry about puss getting snagged on something outside and getting hurt.

Not sure what the solution is Confused

He's booked in for next thursday... and as my nice vet has retired and it's now a medivet franchise I have been warned that it will be expensive. :( (Last time was £160 so not exactly cheap!!!!!!)

Bloody animal..it's not as if I get his undying love and attention either is it? No he'll be begging for sympathy at Thelma's afterwards!!!
For those who are not familiar with him... this is the unfaithful ginger git Grin

Our big feisty fella happily wears his Christmas Santa jumper and Hallowe'en pumpkin jumper. He is slightly less keen on his Christmas Elf one, because it has arms sticking out at the sides which look very funny and so we have to laugh - he does not agree at all with being laughed at. He likes them in colder weather because, although he has a luxuriant coat of his own, he likes to be as hot as possible, his genes being from the jungle and desert. He only wears them indoors however. They are meant for dogs but fit him just fine.

OP - I definitely wouldn't put a jumper or coat on an unsupervised cat outdoors because of the risk of strangulation if it got caught on something.

Yes I had old boy shaved by a cat groomer every summer as he'd get dreadlocks.
He died last year the teeny eared swivel eyed dickhead (my affectionate name for him) and my god how he fought us before swaggering off.
I can always remember the look of dread when the groomer came to our house Grin
Good luck
