Fleas, scabs, sneezes

I’m a dick. I admit it. Despite having had cats all my life, I didn’t realise DCat had fleas. She was a bit scratchy (clumps of fur left around the house) and I noticed a bit scabby at top of tail, along spine and round her neck. Pretty classic I guess. No fur loss. And sneezing loads. And I had a couple of insect bites a few weeks ago. I treated her yesterday and she stopped scratching almost immediately.

In my defence I took her to the vet about a swollen chin / lip and the sneezing about 2 weeks ago and vet said it was cat herpes (she’d had it as a kitten with lots of respiratory symptoms). And the vet didn’t spot the fleas then. In fact he said how nice the condition of her coat was!

Anyway, how long till the scabs go? She won’t allow me to wash her or brush her (shirt fur). She does seem to be grooming the area but not obsessively. Could the sneezing (stopped since last night) and swelling (not quite resolved) actually have been from flea allergy?

Her fur is short. Not shirt. She’s not wearing a shirt.

It does sound like an allergic response tbh, if it doesn't settle then go back to the vet for some Puriton.

Yeah, I thought as much. I’ll give it a week or so. She seems to be barely itchy at all tonight and hasn’t sneezed since yesterday so I’m feeling confident. I have to say I doubted the herpes thing as she’s been eating and playing as normal. Luckily the vet didn’t charge for that consultation so I don’t feel too hard done by: Advantage from Boots with DH’s staff discount is probably far cheaper than if the vet had suggested it and I’d got it there!
