We had our gorgeous cat put to sleep this morning and I am so sad.

She was 15 and became very poorly in last few days but it is heartbreaking.

I'm so sorry to hear that. My condolences. Flowers virtual hug. What was her name?

I am so sorry. Flowers

I know how heartbreaking it is, and how quickly things can go downhill once they are that age. I had to take our much loved elderly cat to the vet last Christmas morning to be put to sleep after a dramatic overnight decline.

Be kind to yourself. Do you have any pictures of your beautiful cat?

Thank you for your replies. Dh has had to go back to work so I am sitting here wondering what to do next.

Her name was Toffee and we have had her since dd was 2. She was a rescue cat and very loved by all.

Hers was also an overnight decline really. I took her to the vets yesterday and they gave some meds to try to help with stiffness in her back legs but I didn’t get to give any as she didn’t eat again. By this am she was passing blood and obviously very ill. It is the right decision but that doesn’t stop it hurting.

Yeah you definitely made the right call. You loved her so much, you would rather she wasn't in pain, even though losing her would bring you in pain.

I know you miss her and most likely will for a long time. And that is okay. She was a part of your family after all. The hurt is just a testament to how much she meant to you.

Toffee was a very gorgeous cat. Flowers

I am so sorry for your loss. You did the right thing for her. Have you got somewhere to bury her/her ashes? I put a lovely plant in my garden after my cats died. Rudbeckia or "Black eyed Susan" is a lovely black and yellow flower.

What a lovely cat, I'm so sorry you lost her, but be glad that you didn't let her suffer. I'm sure she'd be thankful to you for that.

So hard when they go, but it is a testament to how special she was that it hurts so much. Flowers

I'm so sorry @Kahlua4me. Toffee was absolutely gorgeous and I'm sure lived a very full life of happiness and adventures. Thanks

What sort of personality did Toffee have?

Thank you all for your lovely messages.

Toffee had a gentle nature and was very people friendly. If we were playing a board game she would sit with us and she liked playing games on my iPad! She would go up to anybody who would give her some loving. Our house is on a popular route to local schools and she often used to sit outside waiting for the children to go past and pet her.

Her favourite place to sit though was on that wooden box where she could watch the birds in the garden since she gave up catching them to bring them inside!

Oh bless her. It’s so hard. When we lost boy cat (Black) DS took to taking a stuffed toy panther to bed with him and wanted picture of his cat in his room. Sad

I’m so sorry, OP. I’ve had to say goodbye to much loved cats over the years, and I know how much it hurts.
The only consolation is that it sounds like you gave wee Toffee a wonderful life, full of love and fun, and you cared enough to do the right thing at the end and not prolong her suffering.
Hang on to all your lovely memories of her - don’t let the grief block those out.
I know it’s way too soon, but there may come a day when you feel ready to give a loving home to another little rescue cat in need.
It took me 18 months after my 21 year old cat died, but I now have a feisty little madam who has snuggled her way into my heart. I’m sure there’s one waiting for you too.
God bless.

I'm so sorry. Toffee was a beauty and obviously well loved. I love that she used to wait for the school children to pet her, she was obviously very friendly.

Our cat is poorly at the moment with cancer and I dread this day. I'm sure you have lots of lovely memories of Toffee which I hope make you smile.
