Should we get another cat?

Recently we lost our gorgeous cat. She was one of a pair of sisters. We have considered getting another cat for us and for the remaining sister but I wonder if it's what's best? Any advice?

I lost my cat in August. I wanted another but was very unsure as her sister had been very dominated by her. My family kept telling me to let Magic reign supreme for a bit and see how she settled. But she wasn't happy on her own. I saw one from the same rescue that I thought would be a good fit so I took the plunge. I introduced them straight away. And saw magic visibly relax when she saw there was another cat in the house. They aren't close but there been absolutely no issues at all. Magic is definitely the boss though. Which is what I hoped for. They are both so laid back they are horizontal though. Cheddar really helped fill the huge hole left by Maia.

I’m so sorry for your loss. A rescue might advise you on the best possible temperament for a new cat. You could even ask about fostering with a view to adopt?

Cheddar is very needy but doesn't interrupt or dominate in the way that Maia did. So magic is not pushed out.

Toddler that's really sweet, so glad it worked out.

I wouldn't be able to get another cat, I was so attached to my little ballerina beautiful one.

Gonzoo in your position I'd get another. Just introduce them gently.

I think it depends on the cat. When my Rubycat was killed on the road my older cat Greylight went off her food and meowed pitifully.
I got a 7 month old kitten Ellie and they bonded well for the year my old girl had left before we lost her at 15 from kidney failure.
I m glad she had a friend in the last year of her life.
Only have Ellie now but shes very much an only cat and seems happy with human company only.
If you're cat is lonely and sad definitely get another.
Sorry for your loss Flowers
