The litter tray

Arrrgh! She peed on me!

I have two cats, one male and one female, not related to each other but both around three and a half years old. I've had them since they were twelve weeks old. Both are neutered and they've always been house cats as we live next to a busy road. They aren't hostile to each other but they don't cuddle up together either - I'd say they tolerate each other.

This morning DH and I were lying in bed chatting, and the female jumped up on the bed beside me, and peed. An absolute river of pee. This is completely out of the blue. We've never had this before except for one time when we were away for two weeks and the cat sitter reported what she called a "protest pee" on the bedding. We thought it was just because they were unsettled as we hadn't left them for so long before, and it seemed to be a one-off.

Why on earth did she pee on me this morning? The litter tray wasn't dirty, there hasn't been any changes or upheaval in the household, and I can't think of anything that would have upset her or been out of the ordinary. No changes at all to their food, litter, environment . . . I'm baffled! Has anyone else had this? And how do we make sure it doesn't happen again?

Have you had lots of fireworks in your area that could have upset her? If not then a trip to the vets for a check up. As it's often an indicator that something is wrong.

Might be a uti common in cats

I’d get her checked for a uti first of all.

is it just the one tray you have? Some do not like to share, some like one for peeing and another for poo. Does she really like the litter??

one of mine is really fussy about the litter...she only likes the pink non clumping....put anything else out and she'll pee in the shower or hand basin

Otherwise, a vet check and go from there.

I'm taking her to the vet tomorrow for a check-up, but my gut feeling is that it's not something physical (I don't know what I'm basing this on but I agree that a check-up is the first port of call).

I hadn't thought about fireworks. She's never been bothered by them before but I guess you never know . . .

Same litter tray they've always had, MrsMighty, and no change to the litter or anything. I've only ever used one tray for both of them because it's one of the extra large enclosed ones. Can they develop a sudden aversion to sharing a tray, I wonder?

Had similar happen last week...my neutered male...previously very clean in house...walked in...looked me in the eye and sprayed up curtains😱

There was a lot if swearing...me🤬😟

But over the rest of day he was very unsettled...in and out of garden...squating and attempting to spray all round garden. This got me thinking...and worrying...so phoned vet. Was told to take him straight round...where examination indicated cystitis. 😿

Luckily we caught it in time before blockage to bladder and and antibiotic injection along with pain meds and he was able to settle and sleep for rest of day/night. Back to his old self now 😺

My cat has weed on me when I was in bed, because I didn't get up straight away to feed her (she's not allowed in our room any more).

I adore her but she's a very attitudy Siamese.
