Cat and Kitten

Hi all, just after a bit of advice. My darling girl got run over a couple of months ago and her sister was really missing her company. She was 3.5 years old and a complete darling, whereas her sister, although a wonderful cat, is very nervy, a bit miserable and only seems to love me. She definitely needed some company so I have got a kitten in the hope that she will mother him. So far she is not impressed. She's not been nasty to him, in fact he squares up to her and hisses and I think she's a bit wary but I just want her to be ok. She runs away from me when I try to cuddle her, and doesn't want to sleep on my bed preferring to be in the spare room.

What can I do? Do I just need to let her adjust in her own time? I need to shut the kitten away when feeding her, as they seem to be swapping bowls and I'm not sure whether her food is bad for the kitten. If anyone has introduced a kitten to an older cat, how long is it before harmony is restored. I just want her to be ok and happy and not feel like her nose has been put out of joint. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
