It isn't my cat!!!

There is a very friendly cat that has taken up residence on my door step. I don't know who it belongs too.

The wee thing sits and meows at the top of its voice and looks very sorry for itself. Sits there in the rain, snow, blizzards etc.

I have taken it in and get it a couple of times when it looked very hungry.

Now people keep knocking on my door telling me I should let my bloody cat in in the rain... poor creature etc.

But it isn't my cat! I can't let it in all the time because I have two dogs who are not find of cats and also... I don't really want a cat.

I'm torn between taking it to a rescue or just leaving it be. It may well belong to somebody on the street and it is just doing a poor me feed me act. What should I do?

Take it in. Feed it. Put up posters. If no one replies then contact a rescue. It sounds as though it is lost or has been thrown out.

How long have you been seeing it for?

If you can get hold of a proper cat carrier you could also take it to be scanned for a microchip at any vet free of charge. But only do it if you can get a proper carrier.

Can you take it to a vet or rescue centre to see if it has a micro chip. Are you in the u.k. if you can't have it in the house would you consider putting a box on the porch with a blanket in it, or a pet carrier if you have got one so it's warm and leave some food until you can get it home or rescued.

How long have you lived there for? Could it have belonged of a previous owner?

Someone in my area has just had their missing cat return after four years! Just turned up on the doorstep one day.

We acquired a cat when his owner went to prison. Some cats aren't lucky enough to have a community police officer to rehome them. Some cats go out and come home to find no one there.
Give this poor cat a home.

If you've fed him he'll keep coming back. Take him to the vets to be scanned for a microchip xx

Take a photo of it, put it on your front door with THIS CAT DOES NOT LIVE HERE next to it.

Poor thing, Get it scanned for a chip at the vets and get it a shelter for the garden. Also contact the local rescues and see if they will take it in or put it on the waiting list. Please feed it and find it some shelter, its getting cold now.

Feed the helpless little cat. He or she sounds domesticated, and has been cruelly abandoned.

OP, you can send the cat to a rescue, or you can keep him or her. Which would be lovely.

Either take the poor thing in or take it to a rescue place. IF it has got an owner, they are neglecting it by leaving it out in all weathers and by not feeding it.

I had the same thing, a couple of years ago. This cat was out in snow, rain, all day long, and I used to have it in my house (I had 3 cats of my own then - just got 1 now), and I fed it, kept it warm. It had an owner, so I found out, but the dozy cow left the catflap closed so the cat couldn't get in! I went round to her house, gave her a right bollocking! She was nice enough, but quite thick (she hadn't had a cat before, whereas I've had cats for 38 years) and she keeps the cat in almost all the time now.

We had a similar scenario. Called Cat's Protection and they came within an hour or so to pick the cat up and take it to a vets for scanning.
You can also take it to a vet yourself if able. They will either call the owner to pick it up if it's chipped or find it a place in a local shelter if it's not. They won't return it to you.
Good luck - it can be stressful when you don't know what the situation is.

Yes been doing this for about a year... he must go somewhere at night because I don't see him when I take the dogs out last thing at night.

I think I'm worried I get him scanned and they say oh yes he's registered at number 23 (we are 21).

I could leave a box with blankets and food in the communal corridor tonight I suppose as it's blowing a hooly!

I do feel bad for him/her and I'm not really a cat person (don't hate me!)

He probably finds shelter on s night under a parked car or hedge can you not feed him I feed mine in the communal hall. Just cheap stuff from Sainsbury’s. I’m sure he won’t be any trouble as he’s used to going outside. At least call a charity to try and get him checked for a chip,
