The litter tray

6 yo tom has blood in poo

I've made an appointment at the vets tomorrow. We moved house a month ago and he went on the bathroom floor, maybe due to being upset, although he does seem to be selling well although he's always been a jumpy cat.

Before the move he went outside so I don't know if this was an ongoing problem Sad

Any ideas what to expect at the vets? Will they want a sample? Will they take bloods?

I've googled but seems it could be anything including cancer??

He's only 6 years old, hasn't had any problems apart from juvenile gingivitis when he was 6 months old which was treated with antibiotics and anti viral medication.

Wise to take home to vets but step away from Dr Google!
It can be a one off due to a blood vessel popping, stress can trigger it. Try not to worry I'm sure the vet will check him over and likely ask you for details about his poo!

Thanks I hope so. It's happened twice now. I'm hoping it's nothing sinister.

The vet said he has colitis and gave us liquid antibiotics for him. Any suggestions where to buy prokoln as he's prone to a dodgy stomach?

Just googled it and looks like Amazon and some online pet suppliers sell it. If it's something the vet has suggested, I'm sure they'd be able to order some in for you. It might be worth giving him some gently cooked chicken for a day or two as it might help settle his tummy. Just in case it's stress related, it might be worth trying something like a Feliway diffuser.

Keep us up to date with how he's doing.

Vets normally stock stuff like that (I bought some from ours once). Zooplus is good for pet stuff. Or the online drug stores-I have used animeddirect.co.uk or viovet in the past.
Hope he's on the mend soon!

The vet didn't suggest it unfortunately and I didn't think about it until I got home.

I'm just aware of how antibiotics affect human stomachs and thought I'd give him something to help.

I'll look on Amazon and zooplus.
