The litter tray

Cats Protection, how long between homecheck and new kitties?

Assuming they have suitable ones, which I've been told our branch have. I am super excited, home check on Saturday, which she's pretty much said we've already passed as she knows our road and the houses well. Any chance of kitties by Sunday evening? Should I go cat shopping? Did I say I'm excited?? Grin

Most charities like quick adoptions as there's inevitably a long waiting list of other cats waiting for a place with them...

But sometimes it depends on the availability of the right person at the right time i.e. there's usually just one or two people at a charity who can implant microchips or do the adoptions paperwork. So it's hard to know!

Home visit Thursday evening, cat hiding behind the sofa by Saturday lunchtime.

It might depend on branch, they wanted to bring them to our home with someone familiar and some of their own litter and food. We couldn't take ours straight away, I know their litter mate left the foster carer about a week after being viewed.

Yes, go shopping - I did before the homecheck - it has to be done. If you don't know what food and litter your little one is using, you might want to ensure there's time before adopting to buy some to they've got what they're used to while settling in.

I think with some people they immediately get a feel if you're right, the lady from CP sat down and started talking dates immediately, joking she hadn't done a homecheck yet - nothing to worry about, just pointing out a few things to move, looking for catflaps sites if you're getting one, if not, they like to see the cat has shelter outside if it can't easily get in, chance to talk cats and any questions. The two ladies from CP (foster carer and co-coordinator) both spent ages with us and do like the offer of a hot drink and biscuits, so be prepared and that'll be one box ticked.

Home check on Sunday, kitten on Monday! That was our local RSPCA branch.
We had nothing and had to stop at the pet store on the way to get him!

Getting nervous now...

She said that if she comes out Saturday afternoon that gives us Sunday to meet cats. Think I'll hit Pets at Home tomorrow morning after scrubbing the house and buying biscuits!

Alas no Sad Home check went well with scatty but run off her feet CP woman. As she was going she said she'd call later so we could visit and meet some cats, she had a pair in mind. However, that was Saturday afternoon and we haven't heard anything since. We've been too busy to chase her, and she's impossible to get hold of. Going to call after work today and see if I can catch her. I'm so stressed at the mo, I need cats!

Keep trying to contact. I originally contacted them asking if they had a waiting list for the autumn, they came back withing 48 hours saying they actually had some which they'd hold onto until 1/9 - being early/mid August we were obviously in no panic to get them, but it then took a week for them to come back to make arrangements.

If you do hear from her again, make sure you get her mobile or email, as the main number on their website is a central number for everything.

Spoken to her again and now have the contact details for the foster mum of our would-be dictators. In the meantime I bought a litter tray and a scoop! Grin

Now you need to buy a bed for the furry controllers to ignore, and don't forget several tons of dreamers!

I rather like the look of the radiator beds... If I get one of the towers that has a house in it, do they need another bed to ignore or will that suffice?

They're not the fastest, the CP, are they? I eventually got hold of the woman with 'our' kittens by text and had a chat about them and their background. She asked if I was still interested and I said yes please I'd love to meet them. No response. Icebergs move more quickly!

Oh no! I volunteer in a CP adoption centre and the staff like to get the cats out asap (once all is ok that is) to make room for more. I believe the branches work differently and it can take time..... I hope you can actually get to meet them soon.

As Vinorosso said, they probably all work differently. I phoned the foster carer late morning, she didn't work so I could literally go around any time, so went that evening. I then had to speak to the co-coordinator the next day.

The foster carer actually bought the kittens to our house (I guess to settle them with someone familiar), alongside a little cat litter from their tray (familiar smells), and some of their current food and toys. If they've been with a foster carer, she'll know them a bit more individually, but they will develop once in a home environment. Boris was more confidence, but he's a lot more chilled. Ollie was more nervous, but he's the one whose more astute, seems to want that extra bit of company.

Even though I knew they'd be bringing a little food and litter, I wanted to know what they were currently on so I could get stocked up!

She's going to send me some photos now and we're sorting out a visit time. She said they're very shy with strangers so patience is needed but that's ok. And yes I want to find out what litter etc they're using before I go and buy anything.

Exciting! You just know you're going to fall in love with them whatever!
When visiting you can talk to her about timescale, if you need an extra day or two to prepare, ask. They'd rather you were ready and had everything.

Keeping your feet on the ground, it's natural for a cat to be shy/nervous with strangers, but just try and get a feel of how they are with the fosterer, check if they're relaxed with her, will let her stroke them etc.

Several beds is a good idea, although our furry controller has preferred sleeping places, none of which are officially designated.

Our CPL were suspiciously keen to get rid of him, and gave us his toys, a bed, and a high tower (all of which were ignored once he got home). Oh, they said, he is such a lovely gentle cat, probably the most gentle cat we have ever seen. Ha! Is all I have to say.

Don't forget a scratching post (bitter experience)
