Kittens in a garden,never been inside,homes have been found for all but one.if I take it what do I need to know.

First thing I'd do is get an appointment at a vet and follow their advice. They'll need a lot of patience and time at that age (should still be with mum really) but a vet will help you out massively. Proper kitten food would be an absolute must.

@thecatneuterer volunteers for CH I think so hopefully I've tagged her properly and she'll be along with proper advice .

I'm the last resort...I don't know why they weren't all taken to Rspca..I've got a small dog ,and I've never had a cat b4...so I may foster it till we find a good home...

I'm willing to do my best ,but I'm not knowledgeable,I had dogs and cats as a child..buts that's my extent if knowledge

So what's the story? Who has taken them out of the garden? Where is the mother? It's really much too soon for them to leave mum. I doubt they're eating solid food, so will need syringe feeding. I'm absolutely not an expert with rearing very young kittens as I never do it. We have people who are expert at that. But of course generally we keep the kittens with the mum.

Kittens should all have gone with mum to a foster home, after mum was neutered. Who have the others gone to? Are they expert at hand-rearing kittens? In which the case the last one should go to them also, until it is old enough, then you can take it on. If they've just been handed out to all and sundry then they all need collecting again and handing to a charity, who will also arrange to get the mum.

Where in the country are you?

Of course if they are eating solid food then that's not so bad and at least they are reasonably likely to live. It's a difficult thing to take on though. You really need to call in a local charity.

Hi OP 5 weeks is very going to be away from mom but not unheard of. It might be an idea to contact your local cats protection for some advice.

Kitten definitely needs socialization from now or it will become feral. As for food kitten milk mooshed up with some kitten food so that it is a groom and easy for them to eat.

I would definitely contact your cats protection as they will help you with fostering and get mommy cat neutered for free.

It's vital that the mother gets neutered. If she's feral then, now her kittens have been taken away, it isn't going to be as easy to trap her as it would have been but it can still be done.

Cats Protection can probably help, and there may be other charities in your area.

Please can you say where you are?

When our 2 came to is they were orphaned. Probably about 6 weeks old. Took to (soft) solid food quite well and lived to be 15 and 16.

Took a lot of patience and gentle handling to start with but soon thrived.

5 weeks is really too young to leave mum unless there is a very good reason - like no mum.

Yes, but they can't be left with mum in a garden, as then they won't be socialised and will become feral and unhomeable themselves. A charity needs to be called in. And you can't just plonk the kittens back in the garden as then mum will take them away as she will have been spooked.

A charity needs to take away mum and kittens. They will then neuter mum and home kittens when old enough

Mum is with kittens ,safe ,mum is booked at the vets for free neutering ..kittens and mum all have found a new home together,thankyou everyone
