The litter tray

So we got a kitten nearly 4 weeks ago. We already have an older cat (2) who does her business out side an older kitten (6 months) and the kitten (11 weeks). When we first got her all was good, eating and drinking well and using the litter box. Two younger cats never really got on at first but love each other now, sleep together and play well! The problem is the youngest has started peeing on the floor! In corners on top of things she's knocked down etc. I've caught her doing it so I know it's her. What can I do? She poops in the box so it's not the litter. It gets emptied twice daily and emptied and cleaned out every 2/3 days! I've even put down another tray but she's still peeing on the floor! I fear my house is starting to smell! Any one help? I'm just going into work so will reply ASAP 😊

You could try increasing your tray ratio - the ideal ratio is supposed to be one per car cat plus one, which would be four in your case.

You could try putting a tray in the spot she has started to use (the tray can gradually be moved at a later date).

Feliway can help cats relax in multi-cat households.

The only thing that stopped one of my girls peeing on the sofa was blocking access to her favourite spot. Having separate litter trays didn't work. They didn't use the second one. And none of the repellant sprays worked either. Trust me, I tried them all!

Unfortunately there's no room where she's been peeing as one of the spots is next to the litter tray! So that rules out blocking access as well 😭. I've tried an extra tray and she poops in it but pees on the floor. I'll look into feliway.

I found pet remedy more effective than deli way and it's cheaper. However it does smell.

Toddler what's pet remedy please? And does it smell bad? Willing to try anything tbh before it gets out of hand 😳

Do you have three cats and one litter tray? You should have about 4.
Been vet checked? No UTI?
Using same litter as the rescue place or breeder?

It's too late now but bear in mind for the future that cats prefer to live alone. Yes kittens are cute and will play together etc but once a cat grows older then it's preference is to be alone - not in all cases of course but in most

The point im making is that litter tray issues are common in multiple cat house holds due to stress/ over crowding/ not enough trays or privacy etc. I'd check the litter and confine the kitten to as small a room as you can with a fresh litter tray and see if that helps

FYI wolfiefan I have 3 cats and two trays. One cat goes outside as it says in my OP so a tray for each cat! Yes been vet checked had first injections

The advice is one tray per cat and a spare. That's the recommended. We only have two cats and two trays (they also go outside). But another tray could help n

Tansytaylor. I like how you assume I'm a crazy cat lady who loves kittens! FYI When we got the older cat we got two sisters, one was ran over and killed so a few months later we got a kitten to keep her company as she was lonely! As for the kitten we rescued her from a place where she was extremely likely to be neglected! And as you say that's not in ALL cases
cats prefer to be alone. Definitely not mine so .....

When was vet check? Could be a UTI.

Just over a week ago. I honestly can't remember if the peeing started before or after! I'll go and get another tray today and pet rescue plug in. If that's not helped by end of the week will take her back to the vet

If it is a UTI then it needs treatment ASAP. Could also try different litters?

She's using the litter tray to poop so I don't think it's that as she has a good dig around when she's in there. Any signs to look for that might indicate a UTI? Urine is not particularly smelly or dark in colour. She's eating and drinking fine and running about playing with the other kitten

Pet remedy is a diffuser that's meant to relax them. It smells a bit but it's not horrendous and clears quickly when switched off. You can get it from Modt pet shops.

Thank you. I've been and got some abs a new litter tray so that's 3 now. Fingers crossed 🤞
