He is dead. I can't stop crying. He was the sweetest boy ever. He was a rescue cat and we were supposed to give him a good life, not let him be killed

I don't know why I'm writing this, I just had to get it out

He was the sweetest, silliest cat in the world. He had been visiting a woman across the road who he used to go and see for cuddles and treats

I am so sorry. We had the same thing happen to our boy three days ago.

It’s so hard but I’m sure he knew how much you loved him.

I’m told that time is the only healer and you will remember the good times you had.

We are still in contact with his previous owners and will need to let them know. They trusted us to look after him and now he is gone

That’s so sad. We’ve experienced the same. But your boy had your love and that gave you both happiness, so he was a lucky boy for the time you had him. Take care of yourself, time does heal but you never forget them.

It’s not your fault, it could happen to any of us with outdoor cats. I’m very sorry for your loss.

I know he was happy outside. He had friends, human and feline. He would go for walks and the children here loved him. But he would still be here if we hadn't let him out. He tried to follow me to the shop earlier and I don't him to go home.

He had a great relationship with our other boy. They would play fight and chase each other around the flat, then snuggle up to each other and sleep. He is going to be lost without him

So sorry for your loss. NEVER blame yourself, it's just one of those awful accidents in life that happens. And yes, as others have said, time is a great healer. Sending hugs (((( )))

I am so so sorry for your loss. You did give him a good life. The love you have for him is obvious in your posts. If he was visiting the woman over the road then the last thing he knew was treats and cuddles. Flowers

I’m so very sorry x. It’s heartbreaking.

You can’t blame yourself, you can’t teach cats road sense and they love being outside 💐

You DID give him a loving home and a lovely life.

Personally I’d be furious with the woman across the road encouraging him.

I m so sorry for your loss OP. The same thing happened to me in September with our girl cat. I feel guilty too as I let her out but like your boy she was happy exploring and would have been miserable locked up.
I rescued mine too so I know the feeling but remember he was so happy and healthy knew you loved him.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Of my last pair, one was run over outside my house and now i have started again with another pair it's the thing that worries me the most. Bit it happened because you gave him the freedom to be a cat and I'm sure that will have made him a happy cat. I'm so sad for you, you will miss him dreadfully, but don't feel guilty. Flowers

Oh OP I'm so sorry for your loss. Nothing can make this heartbreaking time any less sad, but just hold on to the knowledge that if you had kept him in his life wouldn't have been nearly as full of happiness and love from his outside friends. All my thoughts are with you xxx

Flowers OP. Exactly the same happened to our last boy cat - run over on the road 50yards from our house. DS and I just spent the whole evening cuddled on the sofa together crying our eyes out. Just keep reminding yourself that your cat had a lovely life being loved, and would have been miserable being cooped up inside.

What I learnt is that it's not your fault you gave him a wonderful happy life. It was the driver s fault. I think about my girl a lot as she was killed just yards from home.
Tonight I was out driving and saw a little tabby in the road just about to cross. I thank God I was driving slowly and could stop. I wish the drivers that hit our precious babies had stopped

Report
BlushingCrows · 20/05/2018 21:46

The driver was apparently upset because he is a vegetarian, he didn't even bother staying. Families on our street looked after it all and found us

I don't blame the lady over the road at all. She didn't encourage him, he loved people so much

DH dealt with it all and is now in shock
