Grumpy can't pee

so another bout of cystitis/bladder problems, only this time grumpy can't pee easily.
...he struggle in the litter tray, then pees when he is relaxed on my lap or asleep.
He had a followup appt yesterday for more tests, and has more drugs.
but i think the stress of it has made him worse - or reaction to GA/new pills. he is not eating or drinking or sleeping. I need to go back to vet this afternoon anyway, but am really starting to think this is it, and i should let him go, I don't know if i am being selfish for thinking this, or selfish for hoping he will recover enough to take more medication. Vet thinks it might just be he was on the wrong antibiotics.

the only drugs i could get into him this morning were liquid opiod painkillers. (squirted in to grumpy burrito ). since then he has refused everything..

Poor soul, it must be distressing for him cats are so clean and having bladder problems can't be nice, do they know what's causing it all. Whatever happens at the vet I will be thinking of you and KitKat and sending you hugs. How old is he, he sounds very loved and cherished.

So sorry to hear about Grumpy. It's so hard going through this. It might be worth asking for an appetite stimulant in the hope you can get some wet food into him. Have an honest conversation with your vet about what your thinking. If there's any chance you'd let him go this afternoon, you might want to think about if you'd like to take something with you to put under him to he's comfortable in his last moments.

I had Lottie pts last week, we've had ups and downs with her over the lasts few months. She was slowly deteriorating, and even thought she clearly still wanted food, I couldn't watch her struggling any more. It's so hard to make that decision though.

Sorry to hear about Grumpy. Obviously, inability to (consciously) wee is serious issue and I am sure you have done the best for him.

Grumpy did eat some food yesterday, and we got most of the drugs into him. He had a good nights sleep (and pee during). I left a message for the vet to call me back yesterday as he has got worse since he saw him last (i only spoke to nurse).

i am ok with burrito and liquid meds, but will attempt burrito with pills today. this can't go on much longer though. The only reason that there is to wait is we are waiting for results on the type of bacteria he has, and whether a new antibiotic is the answer.

my partner wants to hold out. not sure i do.

he is unhappy, doped up on pain killers, and then i am the cruel person to force medicine down his throat.

So sorry Queen. It's so stressful when they're poorly. Is there such a thing as antidepressants for cats to help them relax a little?

he has anti depressants....... they are one of the 2 fowl tasting pills we are really struggling with.

i am going to try to to force a pill into him burrito style today.

Grumpy has always been a fighter. he was the large ginger mog bringing in rabbits, pigeons etc.... The first time the vet tried to take blood from him..... he took more blood from the vet. I was then informed that i actually have a bengal tiger .

he has been so easy look after for so long, because he normally likes treats and will swallow pills inside them. but not right now. forcing pills down his throat is not maintainable and the opposite of ensuring he has "no stress"

So sorry to hear about Grumpy. I know it'll have been such a hard decision. Try and hold onto the fact he had a great home were he was truly loved and looked after and you had that time with him.

We had Lottie pts eight days ago. The first three days were the hardest, but it doesn't stop me missing her.

i keep seeing him in the corner of my eye. making the phone call was the hardest thing. There is no doubt it was the right decision. We donated all food and medicine, and packed up his stuff into the attic. there is a hole there, but it is easier knowing he is not suffering any more.

I am so glad that it was Grumpy's regular vet who did the final appt for us.

we have decided to wait until after christmas to get a new overlord (or two ...)

Queen, I had that for a few days. I kept thinking I caught sight of Lottie near her bed/coming through through the door. Also, I'd hear the odd noise and think it was her.

You know you can't have them forever, but it doesn't stop how you feel.

My husband has always said no more pets. However, it was my birthday last week and he gave me money towards a "pet fund". I'm not ready for another baby at the moment and we have three short breaks planned, so perhaps in the autumn.

Take care of yourself. I found it helped getting myself out a bit the first few days.
