Favourite cat more grumpy then usual

So my cat Alizè (aka favourite cat,or grumpy cat) is always a miserable old man cat but this weekend he's been grumpier than usual. He was dribbling a bit on Saturday (nothing too unusual when he's sleeping) so I went to wipe his mouth and he got all growly. The same thing has happened a few times since. He just scratched his chin and growled at himself - weirdo. He's eating as normal, purring and sleeping like usual, but just seems to maybe be in pain from his mouth or teeth.

Should I take him to the vet do you think, or just keep an eye on him? Goodness knows how the vet would examine him as he is a vicious bugger when he's angry! I don't like the thought of him in pain obviously, but he HATES the vet and panics when he goes which makes his minor heart murmur increase which I try to avoid.

Oh bless him, he's beautiful. Unfortunately I think you've really got to take deep breath and take him in. Sympathies though, Leroy is an absolute nightmare when it comes to vets!

Sounds like mouth/tooth pain, take him to the vets. And warn them he's a feisty one! They'll know how to handle him. Good luck.

Yes he needs the vet. Some things if you just hope for the best, tend to just cost more in vets fees when they don’t get better. Just bite the bullet.

Sounds like he’s in pain, bless him. Best to get him in and get it over with.

Well I've told him the 'good news'. He is now sulking on the opposite settee facing away from me. Miserable thing. He's had a tough time of it at the vet. He had a locked urethra a few years ago which spread to his bladder and he had to have several surgeries, each time I was warned that he probably wouldn't survive the operation, but he did. Then when he started to go back out, he ended up with several abscesses and a chuck of fur and skin ripped off from the back of his neck. The vet thinks another cat was trying to dominate him 😣

He's also had several leg injuries and more abscesses all from fighting! He's neutered but just has a bad attitude. I've locked the cat flap but he's worked out how to open it. I would block it all together, but one of other cats is semi feral and gets v agitated if he can't go out, and pulls his fur out from stress! Bloody cats.

Definitely sounds like he could have a problem with his teeth so glad you are taking him to the vets. Hope he gets on ok. They are such a worry aren't they!

So he's got teeth infections and needs to have some out. They couldn't do the operation today as after he was admitted, a few emergencies came in which quite rightly took priority. Poor baby needs to stay in overnight and will possibly re-emerge tomorrow resembling Toothless the dragon 😁

Oh poor boy but glad you got to the bottom of his problem. Cats seem to do fine with very few teeth. I had a 19 year old cat who would chomp his way through most things. Hope all goes well with his op tomorrow.

Oh bless him. What a gorgeous boy. He’ll be fine without his teeth. Harry (aka my Gummy Bear) lost a lot of his teeth two years ago. He still manages his biscuits without any problems and still bites me regularly!

Harry waves hello to a fellow grumpy toothless wonder.

Hi Harry, you are gorgeous! I know he'll be ok, but I miss him already. The other cats just aren't the same, and don't give such good cuddles. He's going to get so much love and lots of treats when he comes home.

Harry had fractured his jaw and had a dental infection and he was in for two nights and it was awful. He’s our only cat and the house was empty.

Good luck to your lovely boy tomorrow, let us know how he gets on

He's home!!!!! Poor baby wouldn't come near me at first, but now he's all about the love 😁 He hasn't stopped eating, despite the vet saying he might not want to eat for the first day. I think he did this last time he had operations. Only had to have 2 teeth out, and still has his fangs. They seem to have shaved his throat and paw which is odd. They also tested his kidneys which are fine. That was a massive relief cause a couple of years ago he had a bad UTI which spread to his bladder and possible kidneys and nearly killed him.
I had bought him white fish and chicken but he's been stuffing his face with cat food so I haven't cooked it for him yet. So glad to have him home, I missed him so much last night

I'm glad he's OK. Toothache is awful so he will feel much better for it.

The shaved throat will be where they took bloods, and the shaved front legs is probably where they put in an IV. Perhaps they gave extra fluids to support his kidneys during the op.
