The litter tray

So angry, just need a vent.

So, we live next to a lady who has several cats, only one of whom seems to be allowed out. This cat used to let herself into our house, and over time appeared thinner and thinner, until she looked so pitiful, I had to go round and have a word with the owners. Turns out, they didn't even want her, so we offered to take her, figuring one more wouldn't hurt. They assured us she was spayed and up to date with all injections, but I've taken her to the vets this morning, and not only is she riddled with fleas, she's also around 6 weeks pregnant.
We're still keeping her, obviously, but what the hell do I do with up to 8 kittens when they arrive? We already have 5 (including mum) so keeping any isn't an option. Help!

Thank you for taking in that poor little cat. I seem to remember reading on here that it's possible to spay and abort so I don't know if that wouldn be an option. There will be more knowledgeable people along soon though.

I’d ask for a spay and abort. The shelters have so many kittens to re-home anyway it’s not fair to put more out there. Plus it must be draining her.

The old owners sound awful.

Definitely, definitely ask if it's still possible to spay - routinely done before fetuses are viable.

Otherwise, it would be best to rehome her + kittens through a reputable charity. Make a generous donation if you can...

I understood that the OP is keeping the cat viccat. I don't understand why she should have to make a donation to a charity, I think she's doing enough for the cat as it is!

Sad poor kitty. I really wish shelters had more power in these situations, atleast enforcing spaying on neglectful owners.

It’s good news that you have been able to take her in. Hopefully the vets can spay and abort.

Hopefully kitty gets back to a healthy weight.

What a terrible situation to find yourself in. You're very good to keep her. I'd call the RSPCA and tell them what's happened and ask if they can check things out with your neighbour. Some people are so irresponsible.

Sorry guys, hectic day at new job so didn't get chance to reply. Vet seems to be of the opinion that it's too late to do a spay and abort, he thinks she's 2 weeks or less away from giving birth.
I think she's around 1-2yrs old, from what I gathered from her 'owners' she just never got the hang of the litter tray so she just got left outside for days at a time, which led to her being fed very sporadically, and she lost a lot of weight as a result. I've spoken to my local cats protection branch and they are full to bursting at the moment.
Any of you lovely ladies in the Midlands area and fancy a kitten in a few months time? 😂

Damn, I'm in the South East 😂 just wanted to say though what a lovely thing you're doing for the poor thing :) She's in good hands, but I'm not surprised you're so angry at her previous owners :( why do people have pets if they're not going to look after them?

I’m south east too but would have loved one otherwise!! :)

Update! Been for another check up today and fleas are gone, vet says definitely too late to spay and abort. He thinks around 3 or 4 kittens but says it's extremely hit and miss with estimations. Will update you all when she gives birth. I'm so worried for her, she's still only young herself.

Hey Uterus , how is your kitty getting along? Glad she is flea free-she must be so much happier. Have you had any luck finding potential owners for her babies?

not place marking for kitty photos honest.

unfortunate not sure kittens would work with a 20yr blind cat.....

is she putting weight back on ?

Poor little cat. I would put the neighbour in touch with your local cat neuterers if you have one, even if they have no more females their males need snipping.

We are in the midlands- Sounds like my auntie's Neighbour. Poor cats live outside. All crying for food. The only time they get taken in is when they're pregnant (again). The women even posts on Fb 'will people stop feeding my cats!' They are thin and hungry. It's so sad!
Well done for taking this one in. X

Poor little lady, Thankyou for taking her in.

I asked my auntie & she says the lady sells them. In the snow, all you could see were their heads sat in the snow on her doorstep!
I SO wanted to take the pregnant female home. She was so thin & her tummy was huge. I think they have called rspca in the past. People leave food on the street for the cats

Report
thecatneuterer · 14/04/2018 12:48

Well would call the RSPCA again. They're not great but you never know, they might do something.

And this is why no one should buy kittens. Ever!!

Hi guys!
Yes, she's put on 0.28kg so that's something, she only weighs 1.98kg, poor mite. No, tbh the area we live in, people are just going to want the kittens as playthings for their kids, so I'm still at a complete loss as to what to do with them. I'll work something out I guess. Just couldn't leave her in the situation she's in, and she's slotted into our little kitty family so well, she's so loving!!
This is her with my big Lad Felix 😍

So angry, just need a vent.

She’s gorgeous. I don’t think Harry would cope with a kitten otherwise I’d be working out how long it would take from here to the Midlands!

Your going to end up keeping them all.

Bless you Fuck! ....that didn’t come out right, but anyhoo, I’m so glad you took her in and she will be safe and comfortable when she gives birth. You will most likely keep the kittens and become a crazy cat lady! Grin

Cats protection would take the kittens I would think? Up here (Scotland) they are like hens teeth and people wait ages on lists for them but I appreciate that might not be the case where you are.

Report
FuckMyUterus · 15/04/2018 14:54

I really can't keep any of them as we have 5 now.
No, around here, kittens are 10 a penny, and all rescues are absolutely full to bursting I'm afraid. Probably not the best thought out plan, but even if a different rescue has to take each one, that's how it'll have to be. Mom will be done as soon as kittens hit 8 weeks and she'll stay with us no matter what.
