My beautiful British Blue boy in at the Vet Hospital with pancreatitis. He just seemed off on Saturday so we went to the vets on Monday. He had a high temp and conjunctivitis so we went home with antibiotics, painkillers and eye ointment.
Took him back yesterday as he still seemed miserable and just not eating. Turned his nose up at tuna!! After a raft of blood tests it’s official, he has pancreatitis. After googling it I know realise he must have been in soooo much pain.
Has anyone had this condition in their cat and can offer any advice?

Oh no, poor wee thing. They'll fix him for you. Is he staying at the vets?

Oh god our old girl had it-well she had it as part of triaditis so liver, pancreas and IBD all flared up (there is a long version of this but you'd be asleep as she was a very medically complex cat). She did recover very well after surgery to remove her gall bladder and flush out her bile duct then medication bit was fine. This was not due to the pancreatitis but other issues. I think on it's own it is treatable tho differently to a human. Cats are buggers for hiding pain!
Only issue was her pancreas was badly damaged and she became diabetic a year later which we managed.

One of my Persians has it just over a year ago. She went down hill very quickly and was critically ill for a week. The vet originally thought it was lymphoma/ foreign body so did a laparotomy.
She was on morphine and ketamine infusions as methadone wasn't controlling her pain. And antibiotics and fluids. She wasn't expected to survive. I thought I'd have to PTS the first morning. But amazingly she did.
She came home with a feeding tube. But I only used it for a couple of days. When I realised she wasn't eating because she was full of high calorie milk. The vets adored her and apparently she was famous, because she did survive. She's been fine ever since. But it took me a long time to get over!

In hospital and now!

The beautiful boy is much much better! Thank you for your thoughts.
We have been advised to give him a low fat diet so I have spent the afternoon looking at fat contents on lots of different dry foods. He (and my girls) usually have Hills Science diet but I will have to swap them to the diet version as the usual food is 20% fat!! Really shocked!

Oh thank goodness for that. I was told not to worry about the fat content of food as it was less important in cats, more of an issue for dogs i believe. He is a beautiful boy.

He is a very beautiful boy. What causes pancreatitis?

The vet said they don’t really know what causes it. It can be a high fat diet, can be cancer, can just be bad luck! They don’t really have a cure either. They simply supported his fluid levels, gave him extra potassium/other nutrients and fed him specialist food that wouldn’t test his system. The nurses cooked him a little chicken to tempt his appetite! They were so kind.
