Lost my friends cat!

I'm looking after a friends cats for a while, they have been here a few weeks now so yesterday I let them outside. One of them came back but no sign of the other. I'm panicking! I don't know what to do. Should I tell my friend? I'd rather not worry him but how long do I wait?

Put something with a familiar smell outside for to try and guide it back.

If you've had the cat a few weeks then don't panic - it will almost certainly come back. They often disappear for a couple of days the first time they go somewhere new.

May sure you leave food outside the house (presuming they went out via the back garden then leave it there) and don't panic or mention it yet.

Yes they are used to being outdoors.

How far does friend live, is it possible the cat could try to go back there? Letting them out was a bad idea but too late now to reverse that...

Put the litter tray outside, they can sometimes follow their scent back. Same with bedding etc. that they've been using.

Let your neighbours know in case it has got shut somewhere (shed/garage, empty house etc.). Go out looking, especially later at night when it's quiet. I think it's best to let your friend know, they can contact the microchip company to report the cat as missing. That way if it's handed in at vet's, they immediately know the cat has been reported missing.

Sorry to ask the obvious but have you walked the nearby streets calling for it? That's worked for us several times in the past.

Thank you! I have been out with a box of treats. I will go out again later when the kids are in bed and it's quiet. 🙏

No :-( I've been to friends house to check around there, no signs of her. I left food etc outside, the food has been eaten but most likely by another cat. I have asked neighbours to check their sheds etc.

Their house has a catflap so I'm wondering if she made it back and has gone inside? I will have to tell my friend and see if he can ask anybody to check as I don't have keys for his house.
