The litter tray

Telling the toddler girls apart.

My cat sitter is coming in a couple of weeks as I'm away. In the past it didn't matter that she couldn't tell them apart. (I'm the only one who can) but now she will have to give Fatty her tablets. It's going to be more difficult. I'm reluctant to put a collar on her as it caused problems with her floof. Any other suggestions? She does feel much more boney than Snorg, but I'm not expecting her to have much opportunity to be able to compare them!! I don't think she stays long with them.

Cut the hair at the tip of her tail so it's blunt.

Spray a bit of hair colour on one of them/ paint a claw?

A drop of food colouring on an ear is a good way to mark animals, you need such a tiny amount and it will eventually wear off on its own and it won't matter if they groom.

Obviously might not work on a very dark cat!

Aye, give one a distinctive trim somewhere.
It will grow out in a few weeks

Really, blunt cut a tail. I've got a pair of indistinguishable (except by personality) twins, and it's what I do if one is on meds.

OMG! They are gorgeous cats! I’d do as thecat mentioned and cut a bit of fur off of her tail.

Yes I think that's the right thing to do.

Fatty says she will not have food colouring put on her ear. Pity she's black. It would have worked a treat. Should have her tattooed with her name on!

I have exactly the same problem with my two British shorthairs. They are so identical it is mad, I can only tell them apart as Sodium is fatter than Helium & has nystigma - wobbly eyes.
Clipping the fur on the tail is a good idea, although soft Velcro collars are good & doesn't affect the fur if only on for a short time.

Sodium and helium, brilliant names. I wanted to call mine zomorph and Oramorph

Don’t tell Fatty but DH suggested painting the end of her tail a different colour...

The kitty in the left hand picture has a golden spot above her eye-thats how I'd tell them apart!!

Ah yes. The little thinner haired bit. Might just tell the sitter that if she can feel the spine and shoulder blades she's got the right cat! Their cattery got written instructions on how to do it!

I am a nurse, hence the names of opiates.. I always thought fentanyl was a pretty name as well!

I think I may have solved the problem. I stupidly decided Fattycat needed at haircut. But used normal scissors, rather than their thinning scissors. Let's just say, hairdressing isn't my strong point. And their groomer does not need to worry about a rival!ConfusedBlush

This thread reminds me of dog sitting a pack of miniature poodle - and I mean pack, there were about 11 of them. 3 browns, one in show coat the other 2 stripped. Of the remaining black ones, they had 3 different clips between them. Only certain ones could go out with others (nothing neutered, owner showed & bred them), and of course some different diets between them. I made the owner put different coloured bands in the topknot of all the ones in full coat & wrote a list of which had which clip and which colour band in!
