Injured cat

Someone has run over my cat. I don't understand how this has happened as we are surrounded by fields down a long track. Either the poor cat has somehow managed to drag himself a very long way or he has been hit by a delivery driver (who left a card but no parcel) in our driveway.

My poor cat has an injured leg, pelvis, floppy tail and has a 50% chance of survival. If he is unable to go to the loo, then he outlook is very grim. I felt awful leaving him at the vets overnight. Whoever hit my cat would have known they did this. How can someone hurt an animal and drive off? He's a rescue cat and I promised to keep him safe. :(

I'm so so sorry that this has happened to you, but I don't think the person who hit your cat would necessarily have known. There are many, many ways it could have occurred besides kitty running out in front of the vehicle.

He is still very poorly but back home and has to have crate rest for 10 days. Amazingly he doesn't have any broken bones (apart from a chipped hip) but does have some very nasty wounds which have had to be stapled. The main concern is his tail pull injury. The vet thinks he was dragged by a car.

Poor cat hates being in a crate. Does anyone have tips on how to make it better for him? The other cats are ignoring him which seems odd as they are normally very close.

So glad he is on the mend, poor little thing. I expect he will get very bored, how big is the crate, I've never had to use one. Lots of extra cuddles

That sounds very sore. Poor baby. 10 days isn't so bad, but still a long time for a little puss. If he's a sociable and confident cat, put the crate in the room where most of the traffic is, as he'll be occupied by the goings on. If he's a quiet lad, put him in a quiet room and visit him regularly. Does he watch videos? Give him a Kong with treats in it. I imagine the most important thing is rest. 10 days will pass quickly, you'll see.
