Long haired winter coat maintenance

My long haired old girl has got her first winter coat (she was brought up overseas in a much milder climate) and it's quite something!

Her ?mane? is crazy though and it looks like it's getting in her way when she's bathing.

Should we see about getting it trimmed or give her a little trim around her chin? Or leave her alone?

I would not trim her, do you brush her regularly? That surely should be enough never heard of a cat having a trim before but I could be wrong. Can you post a pic MN love a cat pic.

Check out that ruff!

GrumpyOldBagFace Thu 08-Feb-18 21:59:10

This one probably shows it better.

My cat is terrible too and keeps getting matted bits. He runs when he sees me with a brush or comb and doesn't like them near his hind legs. Considering getting some snipped off too (have taken the odd matt off with scissors already)

Spot the scruff bag!

GrumpyOldBagFace Thu 08-Feb-18 22:03:16

Her tolerance level are quite low in her old age. She just looks like she's constantly struggling to see over her own fur!

Oh wow! He has a very similar "do" to my girl.

dementedpixie Thu 08-Feb-18 22:04:39

mine licks the under chin fluff and then chokes on it as it's so long it sticks in his mouth

GrumpyOldBagFace Thu 08-Feb-18 22:05:01

Yes! That's what she does.

I get a professional groomer to do my Persians costs about every 3-4 months.

Toddlerteaplease Thu 08-Feb-18 22:50:38

Pixie, fatty does that. It makes my toes curl!

I trim my girl's ruff. She really struggles to wash beyond it when it gets too long and I can't bear to see that. She sits very well for me, in the place where she normally gets her daily treats.

There's ruffs and there's RUFFS grin

Spectacular Weeds . How does one achieve such divine RUFFNESS? grin

I have just acquired Lottie. Never had a long- hair before and tbh, I'm itching to get her trimmed. She's getting so much fur in her mouth when grooming, despite being brushed every day, that I'm worried she'll get huge fur balls.

I might give her a little trim around the chin to stop her choking on her own beard. Hopefully I don't get carried away and she ends up looking like a topiary poodle!

demented that's not a Norwegian forest cat is it, sorry for the derail!! I want one, your two are sooo beautiful.
grumpy seeing your beauty and judging by the comments she may need a trim she is gorgeous.

rupertpenryswife Fri 09-Feb-18 17:33:50

demented my DD reckons your cat is Maine coon??

dementedpixie Fri 09-Feb-18 18:28:18

They are both actually moggies and are brothers even though one is short haired and the other is longer haired.

Mines still less than a year should I be doing something with she get furrier? I brush her every other day she doesn’t seem bothered by her fur.

Doobigetta Fri 09-Feb-18 19:29:55

That's funny, dementedpixie I was just about to guess that your long-haired boy was related to my girl and ask which breeder he came from!
Here's mine when she was little

Doobigetta Fri 09-Feb-18 19:31:15

And she is going for her first undercarriage clip next week, because every time we go near her with a brush she thinks it's the best game ever and wrestles it off us and kills it. Even when she's asleep.

Try thinning scissors instead of normal scissors.
